At the invitation of the CPAFFC, a 14-member delegation of Connaissance de la Chine, Lausanne headed by its president Ms. Danielle Piguet visited Shanghai, Zhangzhou, Longyan, Jiuhuashan Mountain, Huangshan Mountain, Hangzhou and Suzhou from September 3 to 21, 2005.
Founded in 1968, the Connaissance de la Chine, Lausanne of Switzerland has done a lot of work to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Swiss people, such as showing movies about China, helping Chinese overseas students, organizing various activities such as learning Chinese cooking, Chinese traditional painting, table tennis contests, exchange visits of children, collecting donations for victims of floods in China, celebrating the return of Hongkong and the 50th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, inviting staff of the CPAFFC to Switzerland to study French, inviting famous specialists and scholars to give lectures on China, and providing consulting service about China for friendly personages in Switzerland. The organization has sent four delegations of friendly personages to China at the invitation of the CPAFFC. Ever since its establishment, it has always kept a good cooperative relationship with the CPAFFC. After assuming the presidency, Ms. Danielle Piguet has been looking for new ways to develop friendship with the CPAFFC.
In Zhangzhou, the delegation watched the well-known Zhangzhou puppet show and visited Gao Shaoping at her home where they appreciated her works of paper-cut and watched a demonstration of her skill by the artist who was known as one of the ten “golden scissors”. The delegates were filled with admiration at the superb skills of the Chinese artists, and highly praised the preservation and development of the traditional folk arts in China. They were gratified to see that there were qualified successors to carry on the traditional folk arts.
When they were in Longyan of Fujian Province, with great interest, the delegation visited the site of Gutian Meeting and the Museum of Chinese Revolution. Danielle said, “Before, we knew a little about the Chinese Communist Party and its army, but our knowledge was quite fragmentary. A better understanding of the extremely hard and bitter struggle of the CCP helps us better understand the current Chinese society.”
Members of the delegation expressed, they would tell the Swiss people what they had seen and heard in China and the warm hospitality so as to let more Swiss come to visit China through the channel of the CPAFFC.
