工作交接

工作交接可以說離職前最重要的事情之一。詳盡、細(xì)致的工作交接，不但可以讓同事很快接手你的工作，也是給自己一段時期的工作劃上一個完美的句號。

Stephanie: Well， ①this is it.

Will: Yup， ②the end of an era. How are you feeling?

Stephanie: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit sad， but still， no regrets.

Will: Before you go， you have to bring me up to speed with everything you have been working on.

Stephanie: Sure. ③I’ve done up a list of all the potential clients we are working on. That is here in the red folder. Some of them are really close to signing with us， so ④keep hounding them—but not so much that we lose them. Do some follow-up reports and check they are getting whatever they request.

Will: Got it. Pretty standard procedure.

Stephanie: You’ll have to make sure you speak to Mr. Holland directly. His assistant always answers and messages never get through to him unless you speak directly to him.

Will: Sure. What’s going on with this pile here?

Stephanie: These are all the orders to be processed. Don’t let them sit here for more than a week. I generally don’t allow orders to take more than three days to process. ⑤If things start getting backed up， get Jenny to jump in and give you a hand. She’s done it a few times for me， so

she knows.

Will: Any other documents I should know about?

Stephanie: Oh， ⑥that’s only the tip of the iceberg， buddy. I’ve outlined everything here， but basically there is the monthly business report， weekly projections， fortnightly budget and daily sales figures that need to be written up.

Will: And then on top of that…

Stephanie: Yeah. ⑦You have to keep this ship afloat. ⑧Make sure everyone is on track.

Will: Oh boy， ⑨I really took you for granted.

Stephanie: Ha! I’ll miss you too.

Smart Sentences

① This is it. 就這樣（結(jié)束）了。

This is it.: used to indicate the arrival of some special moment（用以表示某個特別時刻的到來）。例如：

This is it. Time for your final match.

時間到了，該你參加最后一場比賽了。

② the end of an era 一個時代的結(jié)束

the end of an era: used to indicate an important period has come to an end（用來表明一個重要時期的結(jié)束）。例如：

As Bill Gates retired from Microsoft， it’s the end of an era for the company.

隨著比爾·蓋茨從微軟退休，這個公司的一個時代就結(jié)束了。

③ I’ve done up a list of all the potential clients we are working on. 我已經(jīng)做好了一個我們正在跟進(jìn)的所有潛在客戶的名單。

do up: put together sth.， get sth. ready（整理，重新整修）。例如：

Do up your stuff quickly. We’ll be late for the meeting.

④ keep hounding them 要繼續(xù)追著他們不放

hound sb. (about sb./sth.): constantly disturb sb. in an annoying or upsetting way (about sb./sth.)（不斷騷擾，糾纏）。例如：

The ABC Company has been hounded by debtors since the bad news of lawsuits.

自從惹上官司的壞消息傳開后，ABC公司一直被債主追索。

⑤ If things start getting backed up… 如果工作開始堆積如山了……

back up: things move slower than the expected pace（淤塞，積滯）。例如：

The traffic was backed up by two miles.

交通堵塞達(dá)兩英里長。

⑥ That’s only the tip of the iceberg. 那只是冰山一角。

the tip of the iceberg: one small part of a much larger problem， usually used to refer to negative situations（冰山一角，用以比喻問題的一小部分，通常指負(fù)面的情形）。例如：

The slow sales last month is only the tip of the iceberg.

上月不景氣的銷售業(yè)績只是問題的冰山一角。

⑦ You have to keep this ship afloat. 你要維持業(yè)務(wù)順利進(jìn)行。

afloat: operating at a satisfactory standard economically（經(jīng)濟(jì)上應(yīng)付自如）。例如：

My wife’s flower shop barely stays afloat.

我妻子開的花店只是在勉強(qiáng)維持下去。

⑧ Make sure everyone is on track. 確保每個人的工作進(jìn)展順利。

on track: to act in a way that is likely to result in success（進(jìn)行順利，未出岔子）。例如：

So far， the new marketing project seems to be on track.

到目前為止，這個新的營銷項目似乎一切順利。

⑨ I really took you for granted. 以前我真的把你想得太理所當(dāng)然了。

take sb. for granted: benefit from sb.’s help without showing gratitude（視為當(dāng)然）。例如：

You can’t take me for granted just because you are my boss.

你不能因為你是老板就理所當(dāng)然地使喚我。
