Part1 A New Look

2008-12-31 00:00:00

Jack: Morning, Jane.

Jane: Morning. Hang on a sec, something is different about you. ①I can’t put my finger on it. Ah, of course! Where are your glasses?

Jack: ②You are on the ball today.

Jane: ③Yup, sharp as a tack. So, did you lose them?

Jack: ④I’m giving contacts a shot.

Jane: Contact lenses?

Jack: Yeah. My brother got me onto them.

Jane: ⑤I’m completely in the dark when it comes to contact lenses. I’ve had glasses for as long as I can remember.

Jack: Same here.

Jane: How do contacts work? Doesn’t it feel weird on

your eye?

Jack: I’m still adjusting to them. It took me a while to figure out how to get them in. You have to stretch your eye and balance the lens on your finger. Then try to get it in without dropping it or poking yourself in the eye.

Jane: Sounds tricky. What advantage do they have over glasses?

Jack: Well, the biggest thing I noticed right away was the sense of freedom. I don’t have the glasses pushing down on my nose and nothing is blocking my vision.

Jane: And because they press up against your eyeball, I guess there are no distractions from reflections or fogging up and all that.

Jack: Yeah. They are a bit pricey though.

Jane: How much?

Jack: Well it depends what type you go for. First, there are so many different brands, which all vary in quality.

Jane: But of course you’re better off paying for quality when your eyesight is at stake.

Jack: That’s it. Then you have to choose if you want disposable lenses or more long-term lenses.

Jane: I’d be hopeless. I’d lose them in five minutes.

Jack: Yeah, well, I got the most expensive ones, so I don’t want to lose them. ⑥Knock on wood.

Jane: Don’t you worry about getting infections? I mean, you have to touch your eyes so much. You wouldn’t want to get any dirt in there.

Jack: They do need to be cleaned pretty thoroughly, but I have to clean my glasses a lot, too.

Jane: That’s true. Contacts solve one of my biggest problems with glasses.

Jack: What’s that?

Jane: Matching my frames with my outfit.

Jack: Ha! That’s one problem I don’t have with contacts.

Jane: It seems both glasses and contacts have their drawbacks; you just have to go with what feels more comfortable.

Jack: Yeah. Lenses may take some getting used to, but it feels so much better not being a four eyes.

Jane: Aww, I think you are pretty cute either way.
