Will: Whatta ya mean?

Stephanie: ②My stomach’s in knots. ③I’m sweating bullets. I’m totally worked up over the meeting this morning.

Will: That’s not like you.

Stephanie: ④Tell me about it. I talk to potential clients all the time.

Will: But you are probably nervous because ⑤this potential client could make or break us.

Stephanie: Oh， thanks for pointing that out.

Will: ⑥Pull yourself together. You’ll be fine.

Stephanie: I’ll be fine when I sort these documents out. ⑦They are all over the shop.

Will: Forget the documents; I’d be more worried about your hair.

Stephanie: Oh， no， is it that bad? I didn’t have time to do it today. At least I got the PowerPoint out of the way nice and early.

Will: Who got the PowerPoint out of the way?

Stephanie: OK， so you helped me a little bit. I would have figured it out eventually.

Will: Excuse me， I did the bulk of those slides; you just added a bit of info at the end.

Stephanie: Have you seen my outline?

Will: Which outline?

Stephanie: The outline of my sales pitch.

Will: Your desk is a complete 1)shambles. Good luck finding anything on there.

Stephanie: Argh! I’m losing it. I swear these documents were all in order last week. Ah， there it is. OK， Stephanie， just breathe.

Will: You got everything?

Stephanie: Yeah， I think it’s all here. Sales pitch， PowerPoint， sample product， quarterly figures， company 2)brochure. Can you just put these in 3)alphabetical order while I quickly go and run a brush through my hair?

Will: No time for that.

Stephanie: What?

Will: It’s ten o’clock. The clients are here. ⑧Time to face the music.

斯蒂芬妮：我不知道自己怎么了。

威爾：什么意思？

威爾：是誰把PPT搞好了？

斯蒂芬妮：好吧，你是幫了點忙，反正我最終還是可以自己解決的嘛。

威爾：對不起，大部分的幻燈片都是我做的，你只不過在最后加了一點點信息。

斯蒂芬妮：你看到我的草案了嗎？

威爾：哪份草案？

斯蒂芬妮：我的銷售計劃草案。

威爾：你的桌面亂七八糟，要想在那里找東西？祝你好運了。

斯蒂芬妮：啊！我把它弄丟了。我發誓，上個星期這些文件還是井井有條的。啊，找到了。好了，斯蒂芬妮，深呼吸。

威爾：文件都齊了？

Smart Sentences

① I don’t know what’s come over me. 我不知道自己怎么了。

come over: suddenly start feeling something physically（身體突然間有某種感覺）。例如：

A wave of dizziness suddenly came over me.

我突然覺得一陣頭暈。

② My stomach’s in knots. 我的胃很難受。

stomach in knots: stomach feels tight because of fears or excitement（因害怕或激動而感覺肚子打結）。例如：

My stomach was in knots when I heard the news.

我聽到消息時，覺得肚里一陣緊縮。

③ I’m sweating bullets. 我滿身大汗。

sweat bullets: sweat heavily and nonstop， just like bullets dropping（大汗淋漓）。例如：

John was sweating bullets after running the marathon for the first time.

約翰第一次跑完馬拉松后大汗淋漓。

④ Tell me about it. 就是啊。

Tell me about it.: to indicate that you agree with what the other just said（用以表達你贊同對方剛才所說的）。例如：

可不是嘛。

⑤ This potential client could make or break us. 這個潛在客戶會決定我們的成敗。

make or break: sth. is either a great success or failure（要么成功要么失敗）。例如：

—What do you think of our new book?

你覺得我們這本新書怎么樣？

—It will make or break our year.

它要不讓我們這一年大獲全勝，要不就一敗涂地。

⑥ Pull yourself together. 鎮定一點。

pull yourself together: control your feelings and behave calmly again（振作起來，鎮定）。例如：

Pull yourself together and get back to work.

振作起來，回去工作吧。

⑦ They are all over the shop. 它們都亂成一團了。

all over the shop: sth. completely disorganized or confused， usually referring to physical materials or sb.’s mental state（零亂，混亂）。例如：

The smell of coffee is all over the office.

整個辦公室都飄著咖啡香味。

⑧ Time to face the music. 硬著頭皮上吧。

Time to face the music. = It’s time to face the music.

face the music: in a position where he/she will be criticized or closely examined（面對被指責或仔細考查的處境）。例如：

—I can’t believe it’s the time for the annual performance review.

我真不相信又到了年度評比時間了。

—Time to face the music again.

又要面對了。
