Stephanie: Will, can we talk?
Will: Sure. What’s on your mind?
Stephanie: It’s hard for me to say. Umm…I’ve given it a lot of thought and I think ①it’s time for me to move on.
Will: Hmm? Maybe you just need a break. Take
a holiday?
Stephanie: No. I really think I’m ready for a new job.
Will: ②You’re pulling my leg, right? This is another one of your pranks. ③I’m not gonna fall for it that easily.
Stephanie: I’m not kidding around. Actually, I’ve had offers from other companies. There are a few who are interested in me.
Will: ④This has really come out of the blue.
Stephanie: ⑤I have been tossing up my options for a few weeks actually. ⑥I needed a lot of time to mull it over, but I think I’ve gone as far as I can go with Action Company.
Will: Man! ⑦You are serious. But you have been so happy lately. Why the sudden change of heart?
Stephanie: I am happy here, but I have to think of my future. I can’t stay in a company where there are no opportunities for advancement. Mr. Black has made it quite clear I won’t be promoted any time soon, and besides, he will likely replace any senior positions with managers from one of our other branches.
Will: Well, when ⑧you put it like that, it’s hard for me to argue. How soon are we talking?
Stephanie: Well I have to give one month notice under my contract. So I think I’ll meet with Mr. Black today and ⑨break the news to him.
Will: It sure won’t be the same around here without you.
