火熱夏季，北京奧運的腳步越來越近。來，大家一起開口“說”奧運！

串串燒NO. 1：一起去看火炬傳遞吧！

A: Hey， where are you heading to1?

B: Back home. What's with2 the national flags?

A: I'm going to see the Olympic torch relay. It's going to pass the main road nearby.

B: Oh really?

A: Sure. So are you coming?

B: You bet3 I am. I won't miss it for anything4. It's once in a life time5.

1. be heading to/towards: 朝……走；去……。Head在口語中作動詞用時，意為“朝向，前進”。該詞組后面常接場所、地點、方向等，當接表示方向的詞(east/west/north/south)時，不用介詞to/towards，因為方向詞可作副詞直接修飾動詞head。

He's heading towards the exit. 他正朝出口走去。

The car is heading west. 車正在向西行駛。

2. What's with...: ……怎么樣了？

該句型與“what's up with...“、”what's wrong with...”的意思和用法相同。

3. you bet: 肯定的，一定的

—I think he's going to make it. 我相信他能成功。

—You bet he is. 他一定會的。

4. miss A for B: 為了B放棄A，為了B失去A

I missed class for that great movie I've wanted to see for so long.我為了看那場我一直想看的電影而缺了課。

5. once in a life time: 一生難遇，千載難逢

That's a once in a life time opportunity. Seize it. 那是個一生難遇的機會。抓住它。

A: Wow， that's awesome. Did you feel enthusiasm of the crowd?

B: Of course， it made my heart beat so fast. I almost lost myself6 when the torch went by in front of me.

Beijing National Stadium， also known as the Bird's Nest， is a multi-use sports venue (比賽地點) and will be the main track and field stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The concourses (場所) are very wide to allow people plenty of space to move around， and for refreshments and merchandising stalls (貨攤).To earthquake-proof (防震) the stadium， the bowl (碗狀建筑) and roof were split(分離) into two separate elements and the bowl split into eight zones， each with its own stability system and effectively its own building.

B: Really? Did you take some pictures?

1. It seems/seemed (to sb.) that...: (在某人看來)似乎，好像……

It seems to him that they would never be able to work out the problem. 在他看來，他們好像永遠都無法解決這個問題。

拓展：seem的用法多種多樣，與其相關的搭配在日常口語中經常出現，我們不妨來看看：

⑴ “seem (to be) + 名詞/形容詞(作表語)”，此結構中的 to be 可省略，但名詞前一般應有形容詞修飾。 如：

It seems (to be)the best answer. 這似乎是最好的回答。

The green leaves seemed (to be) more beautiful after the rain. 綠葉在雨后顯得更美。

★如果 to be 后面是 afraid、asleep、awake 等表語形容詞，則 to be 不能省略。

⑵ seem + to do sth.: 看起來會做某事。其否定式為：“do/does/did + not + seem + to do sth.”或“seem + not + to do sth.”。

Tom seems (not) to know everything. 湯姆好像什么都(不)知道。

⑶ There seems/seemed (to be) ...: 似乎有……

There seems (to be)no answer to the question. 這個問題似乎沒有答案。

⑷ It seems as if...: 看起來像，仿佛……。此結構中的 it 是形式主語，as if 引導表語從句。

It seems as if it is going to rain. 看起來快要下雨了。

2. bid for: 競標，也可用作動詞，如：

We are bidding for an 8-year contract. 我們在爭取一個八年的合同。

拓展：bid這個單詞還有付錢的意思。我們來看看bid和pay的區別：

She bid $10 for the book. /She paid $10 for the book. 她花10美元買了那本書。

此種情況下，bid和pay可以通用，后者常用于口語。但bid側重于“出價”，常在拍賣時使用。所以，前一種表達雖然也表示“她花10美元買了那本書”，但可能暗指是在競拍時購買的。

3. fly by like a flash: 像閃電一樣飛過，形容轉瞬即逝

4. from a distance: 從遠距離

我們在問路的對話中，也可以用到“distance”這個詞。

The mall is within walking distance. 購物商場步行就可以到。

—Is the nearest hospital in this area? 最近的醫院是不是在這個地區？

—The hospital is quite a distance from here. You'd better take the bus. 醫院離這里有相當一段距離，你最好是乘公共汽車。

5. break the world record: 打破世界紀錄

此時record作名詞用，重音在第一個音節前。正確的發音是：[5rekC:d]。Record作動詞使用時，重音轉移，讀作：[rI5kC:d]。

英語中單詞重音轉移的現象很多，一般是作名詞或形容詞時重音在前，作動詞時重音在后。如：

6. make one's way: 一路前進，向前

make one's way經常用來表示“前進、行進、前往”。在英語中，有一些結構與“make one's way”類似的詞組也十分形象地描繪了某些前進方式：

⑴ squeeze one's way: 擠出一條路

They squeezed their way in. 他們擠了進來。

⑵ trace one's way: 延伸至……

We expected the path to end abruptly， but we found that it traced its way through the trees． 我們本以為這條道路會突然中斷，但卻發現它一直延伸到樹林外。 (出自《新概念英語》第三冊)

⑶ shoulder one's way: 用肩膀開路

He shouldered his way through the crowd. 他用肩膀開路，從人群中擠了過去。

除了上面我們所講的，類似的詞組還有force one's way、 elbow one's way等。必須強調的是，這類詞組都是約定俗成的固定搭配，不能隨心所欲地編造。

串串燒NO. 3：為奧運健兒加油吶喊！

A: The Olympics is getting near1. How are you players doing?

B: Fine. We are adjusting our bodies to be able to compete at the highest level at the Olympic Games.

A: What is your goal this year? Is it possible2 to break the world record as well?

A: 奧運會臨近了，你們運動員怎么樣了？

在加油助威時這個詞最常見，在生活中的其他時候也經常遇到。英語國家的人每天都不知道要說多少次come on！跟上，趕上，加油，別灰心，別泄氣，來吧，振作起來，努力吧，勇敢點，上啊，快走……都可以用come on來表示。

●CHEER UP!

振作起來！

●OLE! OLE!

這個詞同學們應該不會陌生，它曾在瑞奇·馬丁為世界杯演唱的主題曲中反復出現。Ole是西班牙語，意為“好極了！棒極了！”是足球比賽中常用的加油喝彩口號。

●GO! GO! GO!

田徑運動會的賽場上也出現過這個口號，表示“沖啊！前進！”

●POUR IT ON!

也指“加油，努力！”的意思。

●FORZA!

經常觀看意大利足球甲級聯賽的同學可能會聽到賽場上經常喊出這個詞，發音是：[5fC:tsa]。它是意大利語中“加油”的意思。

1. be getting near: 臨近

拓展：相似的口語表達方式：be coming soon。如：

The Olympics is coming soon. 奧運會臨近了。

2. possible＜probable: Possible指“由于有適當的條件和方法，某事可能發生或做到”， 強調“客觀上有可能”，但常含有“實際希望很小”的意思。沒有probable的可能性大，probable形容“有根據、合情理、值得相信的事物”，帶有“很可能”的意思。另外，還有一個詞是likely，它指“從表面跡象來看很可能”。

3. a hell of a: 非常，很(加重語氣)

千萬不要一看見hell就想到是貶義詞，在口語中，hell還可以經常用來加強語氣的表達，比如：a hell + of + a +名詞/ hell of + 名詞。

You're really got a lot of nerves. → you've got a hell of a lot of nerve.你膽子真大啊！

It is a very bad storm. → That is a hell of a storm.風暴太強了。

4. cheer for...: 為……加油助威

I will cheer for all teams. 我會給所有隊加油。

拓展：root for和cheer for的用法大體相同，都有“為某人助威”的意思。如：

There is going to be a basketball championship at school tonight. How about we go and root for the Old Blues? 今晚學校將有籃球錦標賽，我們去給老布魯斯隊加油助威如何？

5. intensive: 強度大的，集中的，強化的

我們經常看到有隊員在訓練時因傷退出，導致最后不能參賽，怎么用英語表達呢？

The intensive training was too much for him， so he quit. 高強度訓練超出了他的承受范圍，所以他退出了。
