“盡力”的英語(yǔ)表達(dá)探析*

在用英語(yǔ)表達(dá)“盡力”、“盡力而為”、“竭盡全力”、“全力以赴”等意思時(shí)，大多數(shù)英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者通常會(huì)選用“do/try one’s best”這一短語(yǔ)。其實(shí)除了這一常用短語(yǔ)外，我們還可以用其它很多方式進(jìn)行表達(dá)。下面筆者結(jié)合自己的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)經(jīng)歷，對(duì)“盡力”的多種英語(yǔ)表達(dá)進(jìn)行探析。

1.用best表達(dá)“盡力”

I promised my mother I would do/try my best to finish my homework on time.我向媽媽承諾自己會(huì)盡力按時(shí)完成作業(yè)。

We have every good reason to believe that he will do the work to the best of his ability.我們有足夠的理由相信他會(huì)竭盡全力做好這項(xiàng)工作的。

They’ve agreed to solve the problem as best they can.他們同意將盡力解決這個(gè)問(wèn)題。

I know it's going to be hard，but give it your best shot.我知道事情會(huì)很難，不過(guò)你要盡力而為。

If you give of your best，I'm sure you can overcome the difficulty.如果你盡力而為，我確信你能克服這個(gè)困難。

Whenever you are in trouble，just let me know and I'll do my level best to help you.不管什么時(shí)候遇到了麻煩，盡管告訴我，我會(huì)盡全力幫助你的。

Do the best you can and you will surely succeed.只要盡力你就一定會(huì)成功。

2.用do表達(dá)“盡力”

The local government officials claim that they will do all (that) they can (do) to improve laid-off workers’ living conditions.當(dāng)?shù)卣賳T聲稱他們將盡力改善下崗工人的生活條件。

Therefore，we will do everything(that)we can (do) as designers to keep her focus on the patient and his treatment.作為設(shè)計(jì)師，我們將盡力使她的注意力集中在病人和對(duì)病人的治療上。

He is determined to do whatever he can (do) to win his fame back.他下定決心竭盡全力贏回自己的聲譽(yù)。

The ambassador promised to do everything in his power to get the hostages released as soon as possible.大使承諾盡一切努力使人質(zhì)盡早獲釋。

The medical staff are doing their utmost to save the patient's life.醫(yī)護(hù)人員正盡全力搶救病人的生命。

Do it by all means，but keep it secret.盡力去做，不過(guò)要嚴(yán)守秘密。

They are doing everything possible to ascertain his whereabouts.他們正在盡力調(diào)查他的下落。

Leave the ones you haven’t done with me，and I'll see what I can do.把你還沒(méi)有做完的留給我吧，我會(huì)盡力幫你忙的。

I will help you as far as I can.我會(huì)盡力幫助你。

3.用try表達(dá)“盡力”

We are sorry，but we really have tried every possible means.對(duì)不起，但我們的確已經(jīng)盡力了。

After trying his utmost in the past few years，he failed to prevent his company from going broke.盡管在過(guò)去的幾年中他竭盡全力，卻依然沒(méi)有阻止自己的公司倒閉。

He has been trying hard to hold on to his temper.他一直盡力控制自己不發(fā)脾氣。

4.用use表達(dá)“盡力”

The strong man didn’t lift the two heavy boxes until he used every (last) ounce of his energy/strength.這個(gè)強(qiáng)壯的男子用盡全身力氣才把這兩個(gè)重箱子提起來(lái)。

The driver moved the big stone out of the way，using all his strength.司機(jī)用盡全力才把擋道的大石頭挪開(kāi)。

I shall use my best endeavors to secure you the position.我將盡力為你搞到這個(gè)職位。

5.用with表達(dá)“盡力”

He swung the axe with all his strength.他竭盡全力掄起斧頭。

The knight killed the monster with might and main and then went back to his village with its head in his hand.勇士用盡全力殺死了怪獸，而后提著怪獸的頭顱回到了村子里。

6.用go表達(dá)“盡力”

The Labour Party are going all out for victory in/going all out to win the election.為爭(zhēng)取選舉獲勝，工黨正全力以赴。

I'd go to the ends of the earth to be with him.為何能跟他在一起，我愿意竭盡全力。

He went to great lengths to keep their name out of the papers.他盡力不讓自己的名字出現(xiàn)在報(bào)紙上。

7.用make表達(dá)“盡力”

We’ll make every endeavor to obtain sufficient supplies.我們將竭盡全力獲取足夠的物資補(bǔ)給。

8.用exert表達(dá)“盡力”

He was exerting himself to the utmost for the task.他全力以赴完成任務(wù)。

In order to be successful he would have to exert his utmost.為了成功他必須竭盡全力。

He exerted all his strength to win the game.他費(fèi)盡全力贏得了那場(chǎng)比賽。

9.用put表達(dá)“盡力”

You’ve been lazy in the past few months; you’ll have to put your best foot forward if you want to pass that exam now.過(guò)去的幾個(gè)月里，你一直很懶，現(xiàn)在想考試及格，必須全力以赴才行。

Let 's put all our efforts into this business to make it a success.咱們要全力以赴把生意搞活。

10.用pain表達(dá)“盡力”

You’d better take pains to present a smart，efficient appearance.你最好盡力表現(xiàn)出聰明能干的樣子。

He was at pains to find out the truth.他盡力了解事實(shí)真相。

We will spare no pains to support you.我們將全力以赴支持你們。

11.用stretch表達(dá)“盡力”

The emergency services were at full stretch after the motorway pile-up.高速公路發(fā)生連環(huán)撞車事故后，緊急救護(hù)部門(mén)正全力以赴進(jìn)行搶救。

We can't take on any more work——we're fully stretched at the moment.我們不能再接受更多的工作了——目前已經(jīng)全力以赴了。

12.用extend表達(dá)“盡力”

If you do not extend yourself in the coming exam，you will surely fail.如果在即將到來(lái)的考試中你不全力以赴的話，你必然通過(guò)不了。

To win the gold medal，every athlete has to be fully extended.為了贏得金牌，每個(gè)運(yùn)動(dòng)員都必須全力以赴。

13.用習(xí)語(yǔ)表達(dá)“盡力”

We fought tooth and nail to get our plans accepted.我們竭盡全力爭(zhēng)取使我們的計(jì)劃得到采納。

He pulled out all the stops to complete the work in time.他為及時(shí)完成工作而全力以赴。

I am not to blame，for I have shot my bolt.我已經(jīng)盡力了，不該責(zé)備我。
