傾訴是療傷的靈藥

經(jīng)過食物療傷法和購物療傷法，May卻依舊高興不起來。最后，一直陪伴在她身邊的Roger給她當起了心靈導師，勸導她坦率地向關心她的人傾訴，減輕心靈的負擔。Roger的勸導讓May豁然開朗，內心的傷痛逐漸愈合。

Sharing the Burden

Roger： Hey May， loving the new 1）outfit. ①So， should we chalk up another 2）bittersweet victory for retail therapy？

May： Well， I’m not sure I’d call it a victory， since I’m feeling a bit more bitter than sweet. But please don’t rub it in or say “I told you so” cuz I’m really not up for it.

Roger： Man， it kills me to see you having such a hard time. Let me at least buy you a drink， alright？

May： Fine， but I’m not a big drinker.

Roger： No biggie. I’m a lightweight too， so we’ll stick to the softer stuff. What’ll you have？

May： How about an Appletini？

Roger： OK. （to bartender） Two Appletinis please！ （to May） ②But fair warning， they’re stronger than they look.

May： Really？ But they look so pretty.

Roger： So does poison ivy， but it doesn’t mean you should go around touching it.

May： Well， how about me？ Do I look pretty？

Roger： ③You don’t have to go fishing for 3）compliments with me Mayzee. You know I think you’re a 4）stunner， and always have.

May： So why didn’t anything ever happen between us？

Roger： I think we’ve always been at different points in our own lives. But I’ll always be there for you， in whatever capacity you need me to be， especially when you’re feeling down.

May： Why？ Are you secretly in love with me or something？

Roger： I， uh， I don’t know. But I do like to be the one who cheers you up and brings you back from the 5）doldrums； back to the land of the living.

May： I’m not some fallen 6）comrade， Roger. I’ve just been hurting a bit， that’s all.

Roger： Well， all I’m asking is for you to consider sharing your deep-rooted burden with someone who’s willing and able to help shoulder the load.

May： Do you mean clinical therapy？ I thought we’ve been over this…

Roger： No. I mean， can’t you see that eating and shopping are 7）exacerbating the issue. The happiness you seek is not where you think it is. It’s already there， inside you， waiting for you to unlock it.

May： Well， maybe I’m just missing the key.

Roger： That part is easy. All you have to do is talk about your feelings， openly and honestly. We can do it together. Trust me. It’s a great way to put the past in the past， so we can focus on the present and maybe even the future.

May： Have you ever thought of becoming a 8）psychologist？ You have a 9）knack for it！

Roger： Briefly. But I’m not quite ready to follow in Mom’s footsteps and become a shrink just yet. ④First， I need to help myself and the people I care about， before trying to talk complete strangers off the ledge.

May： I don’t know…I think my head’s feeling lighter already doctor…Is that a good thing or a bad thing？

Roger： I think it means no more Appletinis for you， young lady.

羅杰：嘿，玫，喜歡這套新衣服吧。要不要再實施一次購物療法，取得苦樂參半的勝利呢？

玫：好的，但我的酒量不大。

羅杰：不要緊。我的酒量也不大，所以我們還是要軟飲料。你想喝點什么？

玫：蘋果馬提尼，怎樣？

羅杰：好的。（對酒保說）請給我兩杯蘋果馬提尼。（對玫說）但鄭重警告你，它們實際上比看起來的要更烈。

玫：真的嗎？但它們看起來這么漂亮。

羅杰：毒漆藤也是這樣，但這不意味著你應該去碰它。

玫：嗯，那么我呢？我看起來漂亮嗎？

羅杰：你不需要這樣拐彎抹角地來向我討取恭維，玫子。你知道我認為你是個大美女，一直都是。

玫：我不是陣亡同胞，羅杰。我只是有點受傷，僅此而已。

羅杰：好吧，我只是想讓你考慮一下和某個愿意幫助你，也有能力幫助你減輕負擔的人傾訴你內心深處的煩惱。

玫：你是說臨床治療嗎？我想我們早就說過了……

羅杰：不，我的意思是，你難道還不明白暴飲暴食和大肆購物會讓事情越來越糟嗎？你所尋找的幸福并不存在于你認為的地方。幸福一直在那里，它在你心里，等著你去開啟。

玫：或許我恰恰丟失了那把（開啟幸福的）鑰匙。

羅杰：我知道，但我還沒完全準備好繼承母業(yè)去當一名心理醫(yī)生。首先我要幫助自己和自己關心的人，然后我才會去開導那些我完全不認識的想不開的人。

玫：我不知道……我覺得我的頭已經(jīng)沒那么重了，醫(yī)生……這是好事還是壞事呢？

羅杰：我認為這意味著你不需要喝蘋果馬提尼了，小姐。

Smart Sentences

chalk sth. up： add a mark or point to one’s score； achieve sth.（取得成功，獲得勝利）。例如：

talk sb. off the ledge： convince sb. not to do sth. that is harmful to him/her self（說服他人不要做錯事）。例如：
