A sufficient energy intake is important for children while they are growing, and a diverse and nutritious diet is essential for their growth. However, like adults, if they take in more energy - in the form of food -than they use up, the extra energy is stored in their bodies as fat.
The number of overweight and obese children has risen steadily over the past 20 years. By 2024 it is estimated that 24 percent of boys and 27 percent of girls aged 2 to 15 will be obese.
Overweight children are twice as likely to be obese when they grow up as children who arent overweight. This means that in adulthood, they will be at an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attacks, stokes, diabetes, osteoarthritis(骨關(guān)節(jié)炎) and certain cancers. The more overweight you become, the higher risk of suffering health problems you will get.
Apart from being a risk to childrens health, being overweight as a child may also cause emotional problems. Teasing about his or her appearance can affect a child's confidence and self-esteem, and can lead to isolation and depression.

That day was Julies birthday, one of my classmates. To celebrate it together, her roommates purchased a big birthday cake for her in a supermarket nearby.
