I.Analysis of Teaching Materials
This period introduces four great European cities. It helps the students know the location landmarks and other features of the four cities and enlarge students’ horizons. It also helps cultivate the students’ awareness of loving our country.
II.Analysis of Students
Our students have mastered certain skills in English reading. They can use some simple expressions to describe the location of a place and have accumulated some background knowledge. However, it’s a challenge for them to express themselves because they are afraid of making mistakes and unfamiliar with the structure of constructing compositions. In addition, they don’t have a solid foundation of related vocabulary. So in this lesson, I will create an environment to encourage the students to express and show themselves.
III.Teaching Goals
According to the requirements of the Standard of New Curriculum, analysis of the teaching material and students’cognitive level, the teaching aims and demands of this lesson are fixed as follows: 1. Knowledge:1) Students are guided to master important words phrases and sentences used to describe places;2) Students are guided to understand the passage Europe better;2. Ability: 1) Students are expected to develop the reading skills of skimming and scannig;2) Students are instructed to develop their ability of information gathering, comparing and analyzing;3) Students are guided to learn how to process information and describe a place using what they learned this period;3. Emotion: 1) Students are encouraged to learn the spirit of cooperation by participating in teamwork; 2) Students are guided to learn more about European countries and comparisons about China’location,culture economy and so on;3)Arouse students’awareness of loving and developing China .

1.Skimming and scanning. Get main idea by skimming and scanning;2.Communicative method. Understand the passage bette;3.Cooperative method.Fulfil the language output by retell the passage and introduce a new city to group members.
