“It’s high time...”你用對了嗎

我們經常會遇到類似這樣的題目：It’s high time you _____ .(A.start to work；B.would startto work；C.had started to work；D.started working)看似簡單，題干和選項都沒有不認識的單詞，句型也不復雜，但對于選擇哪個選項，有的同學總是舉棋不定。來看看與之相關的幾個句型的區別。

1.It’s time （for somebody）to do something.

這個高頻句型同學們都很熟悉，意思是“該做……的時候了”。如：

1）It’s time to take the dog for a walk.

是該遛狗的時候了。

2）I think it’s time for you to cut down on the junk food you eat.

我想是時候減少你吃的垃圾食品了。

2.It’s high time...

如果在time的前面加上high，同學們就要引起注意了。此句型為虛擬語氣句型，從句中的謂語動詞要么用動詞的過去式（be用were），要么用should+動詞原形。其意思是“某人該做某事了”，含有“事情早該去做而沒有做”之意。如：

1）Mr.Smith is ineffective and indifferent.It’s high time we found a new manager.

史密斯先生工作效率不高，還比較冷漠。我們該找個新經理了。

2）It’s high time you took some responsibility for your actions.

你該為自己的行為承擔一些責任了。

3.It’s about time...

這個句型的用法和意義與It’s high time...類似，也為虛擬語氣句型。如：

1）It’s about time you told me the truth about the cigarette I found in your room.

你該把我在你房間里發現香煙的真相告訴我了。

2）It’s about time we brought the birthday cake.

該是我們送生日蛋糕的時候了。
