堪薩斯城太極之行

來堪薩斯的第二天，社區(qū)活動(dòng)中心舉行了弟子晉級(jí)和弟子收徒儀式，儀式由臺(tái)灣來的八十多歲的陳先生用中英雙語(yǔ)主持，五六十位貴賓學(xué)員參與祝賀，監(jiān)證人嘉賓學(xué)員和弟子蓋瑞發(fā)言感人。整個(gè)活動(dòng)十分順利，其樂融融，就是他們安排的照相師照的合影照片到現(xiàn)在沒有提供出來。十分遺憾。

來堪薩斯城第三天周日，弟子蓋瑞讓到他學(xué)校去觀看檢查學(xué)生練習(xí)情況并匯報(bào)表演。從最基礎(chǔ)課開始：禮儀禮節(jié)，關(guān)節(jié)活動(dòng)熱身運(yùn)動(dòng)，纏絲功練習(xí)，六首四向功練習(xí)。老架一路，太極劍，太極刀，全部匯報(bào)表演。每個(gè)人都很認(rèn)真對(duì)待的態(tài)度使人感動(dòng)，上有七八十歲老人，下有十幾二十歲青年，都練得滿身大汗，沒有一個(gè)叫苦叫累的，都覺得渾身舒服。據(jù)了解，這些人里面有高級(jí)官員、教授、科技人員，大部分都是高學(xué)歷的工程師科研人員，說話做事都是文質(zhì)彬彬有禮有節(jié)，都是積極主動(dòng)幫忙布置場(chǎng)景和清理場(chǎng)地，精神可嘉。

這個(gè)弟子蓋瑞哈佛不但是堅(jiān)持練拳一輩子的武癡，而且是木工方面的藝術(shù)家，他做的家俱和刀槍棍棒關(guān)刀都是藝術(shù)品。他還是世界名刀的收藏家。他講起話來幽默風(fēng)趣，寫的文章真實(shí)感人至深。真是一個(gè)多才多藝文武雙全的藝術(shù)家。

In 1982 in Springfield MO， USA. I saw a demonstration of Yang Style Taijiquan and it caused me to be so curious about the movement that I began learning it. I learned from many different sources and Teachers. However， all of them still caused me to have more questions.

1982年在美國(guó)密蘇里州的Springfield，我看到了楊式太極拳的示范。我非常好奇，并開始學(xué)習(xí)楊氏太極拳。后來我從許多不同的老師那里學(xué)到了不少東西，但我仍然存有很多問題。

I met Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei in 2001 in Cedar Rapids Iowa at a YMCA where he was holding a little workshop. I know I wanted to learn Chen Style Taijiquan， but who could I learn from？ I had several choices at the time， but because of my feeling for Grandmaster I chose to follow him. This was whether or not he would teach me， I didn’t care. I figured that if I was persistent and a good student， he would eventually have to take me seriously and teach me. So I invited him to Kansas City for a seminar and he asked me to be a student at that time.

2001年，我在愛荷華州Cedar Rapids的一個(gè)基督教青年會(huì)遇到了陳正雷宗師，他正在那里舉辦一個(gè)培訓(xùn)班。我想學(xué)陳式太極拳，但我能向誰(shuí)學(xué)呢？當(dāng)時(shí)我有幾個(gè)選擇，但因?yàn)槲覍?duì)陳正雷宗師的感情，我選擇了跟隨他。我不知道他會(huì)不會(huì)教我。但我想，如果我堅(jiān)持不懈，做個(gè)好學(xué)生，他最終會(huì)認(rèn)真對(duì)待我并教我。我邀請(qǐng)他到堪薩斯城舉辦一個(gè)培訓(xùn)班，同時(shí)成為他的學(xué)生。

In 2004 my father passed away in the night from a heart attack. At that time Grandmaster was staying in my home for a weekend Seminar. I was emotionally devastated and had to leave for Oklahoma to help with the Funeral. Grandmaster was accompanied by some of my previous students and left before I returned home.

2004年，我的父親在夜間因心臟病發(fā)作去世。當(dāng)時(shí)陳正雷宗師正住在我家，舉辦一個(gè)周末培訓(xùn)班。我情緒低落，不得不前往俄克拉荷馬州幫助舉行葬禮。宗師只能由我以前的一些學(xué)生陪同，并在我回家之前離開了。

In 2006 I travelled to China and in Zhengzhou I participated in the ceremony to become an In-door disciple. There I made a speech and let everyone know how I felt about Grandmaster and Shimu. Now that my father was gone， and my mother had passed away in 1993， I had a deep feeling that they were my parents now. I still feel that way today and want everyone to know this.

2006年，我去了中國(guó)，在鄭州參加了成為陳正雷宗師入門弟子的儀式。我在儀式上做了一個(gè)演講，讓大家知道我對(duì)師父和師母的感受。我的母親在1993年去世了，我的父親也走了，我從內(nèi)心深處感到現(xiàn)在他們就是我的父母。我今天仍然有這種感覺，并希望大家都能知道我的感受。

I have worked very hard for many many years to practice and promote Chen Family Taijiquan. Every Class I carry a picture of Chen Wang Ting. I have taught Taiji to all ages from as young as 3 to as experienced as 106. Every student I have told them stories of the Chen Family， of Chen Wang Ting， Chen Jiao Pi， Chen Zheng Lei， and how Taijiquan has travelled to this City and their locations from the first generation down to me， and now to them.

多年來，我非常努力地練習(xí)和推廣陳氏太極拳。每節(jié)課我都帶著陳王廷的照片。我教過的學(xué)生年齡從3歲到106歲。我給學(xué)生講陳家溝的故事，講陳王廷、陳照丕、陳正雷的故事，以及陳氏太極拳如何從第一代傳到我，再由我?guī)У娇八_斯城傳授給他們。

When the Pandemic hit the USA and here in Missouri and Kansas. My classes had to stop for some time. So my son Jonathon helped me start having classes on ZOOM. I could not stop teaching even with a pandemic. My classes began to start up again. I got to start some classes at the Kansas City Health Department since the Director was a student at another location. I started teaching in a Park in North Kansas City. I started the Park Hill Community Center Classes back and they have grown to be four classes a week from Beginners to Intermediates， to Advanced， and even Push-hands Classes.

當(dāng)新冠病毒襲擊密蘇里州和堪薩斯州時(shí)，我的課程不得不暫停一段時(shí)間。我的兒子Jonathon幫我設(shè)立了ZOOM課程，線上授課。在疫情期間，我也無(wú)法停止教學(xué)。因?yàn)榭八_斯城衛(wèi)生局局長(zhǎng)是我的學(xué)生，他為我提供了在堪薩斯城衛(wèi)生局上課的機(jī)會(huì)。我還在北堪薩斯城的一個(gè)公園里免費(fèi)教授陳氏太極拳。我在Park Hill社區(qū)中心的課程現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)發(fā)展到每周四節(jié)課，有初級(jí)、中級(jí)、高級(jí)和推手課程。

Istartedhavingsome Teacher Training Classes and wrote manuals for Students to follow for teaching. These studentsbecame teachers and started their own classes. Some of them didn’t start classes， but they decided to help those who did. Our students and Teachers all work together for the same goal. Promoting and spreading the teaching of Chen Family Taijiquan.

我開始開設(shè)教師培訓(xùn)課程，編寫手冊(cè)給參加培訓(xùn)的學(xué)生遵循教學(xué)。有些通過教師培訓(xùn)、獲得教師資格的學(xué)生已經(jīng)成為老師并開始了自己的課程。那些還沒有開始自己上課的教師也已成為其他老師的助教，幫助授課。我們的學(xué)生和老師都在為弘揚(yáng)和傳播陳氏太極拳的同一個(gè)目標(biāo)而共同努力。

In 2019 we decided to go to Las Vegas for the Light of Tai Chi Seminar. We took a large group of students and everyone became more interested in the culture and deeper teachings of Taijiquan. We were glad to be back in touch with Grandmaster and Shimu.

After that the students were very eager to learn more Taijiquan so we started more advanced workshops twice a month and the group has been growing steady. We have been practicing Weapons as well as Push Hands and studying the Lao Jia more deeply.

2019年，我?guī)Я艘淮笕簩W(xué)生去拉斯維加斯參加陳正雷大師的太極之光研討會(huì)。學(xué)生們都對(duì)太極拳的文化和深層次的教義更感興趣。我們很高興能與師父和師母重新取得聯(lián)系。

研討會(huì)之后，學(xué)生們非常渴望更好地學(xué)習(xí)太極拳。我們每月開設(shè)兩次高級(jí)培訓(xùn)班，參加培訓(xùn)班的學(xué)生數(shù)量一直在穩(wěn)步增長(zhǎng)。我們一直在練習(xí)器械和推手，同時(shí)更深入地學(xué)習(xí)老架一路。

One of our students， Marilyn Howard， had moved to Haines Alaska to be near her daughter and grandchildren.Shehadgone through our teacher training and said she would start teaching in Alaska. We heard from her after the pandemic， and she told us she had been teaching a lot of students in Haines and had some advanced students that wanted to go through teacher training. So we took some of our students and went to Haines Alaska and held workshops and some teacher training where we had four teachers promoted. One of which is here today.

我們的一個(gè)學(xué)生Marilyn Howard搬到了阿拉斯加州的Haines。她走之前接受了我們的教師培訓(xùn)并說她將開始在阿拉斯加教授陳氏太極拳。疫情之后，我們收到了她的消息。她在阿拉斯加的Haines教了很多學(xué)生，有些高級(jí)班學(xué)生想接受教師培訓(xùn)。我們帶著一些學(xué)生去了阿拉斯加的Haines，舉辦了學(xué)生培訓(xùn)和教師培訓(xùn)，在那里我晉升了四名教師。其中之一今天專程來到了這里。

Today I am honored and so proud to be promoted as an In-Chamber Disciple by Grandmaster Chen Zheng Lei and Shimu.Thank you so much for coming to Kansas City to allow me this honor. I cannot say how proud I feel of my Chen TajiquanFamily. Thank you for teaching me all these years.

今天，我很榮幸，也很自豪能被陳正雷宗師和師母晉升為入室弟子。非常感謝你們來到堪薩斯城，讓我獲得這一榮譽(yù)。我對(duì)陳氏太極拳大家庭的自豪感無(wú)以言表，謝謝你們這些年來對(duì)我的教導(dǎo)。

Our school has made great progress in teaching Taijiquan in Kansas City and even Alaska， but we still want to promote more and grow larger as a school. Now that we have many supporters， students， teachers， and even 14 students that arepledging to become Disciples of Myself……

I feel confident to report to Grandmaster Chen and Shimu that we who represent Three Dragons Way are successful， strong， and prepared to carry on the Chen Family Taijiquan！！！

Tai Chi is Great！！！！！

我們學(xué)校在堪薩斯城甚至阿拉斯加的太極拳教學(xué)方面取得了很大進(jìn)展，但我們?nèi)匀恍枰l(fā)展壯大。現(xiàn)在我們有很多支持者，有學(xué)生、有老師，其中14名學(xué)生都承諾成為我的徒弟......

我有信心向師父和師母匯報(bào)，我們?nèi)埖捞珮O拳學(xué)院有能力也有強(qiáng)大的實(shí)力繼承陳氏太極拳！！！

I promise to Honor and Respect my Teacher， School， and Fellow Students.

I promise to never misuse my teaching and skills.
