It's always exciting to receive a letter in the mail. Even today, when the world is digi?tally connected, receiving an actual letter in your mailbox from a distant land is a great wayfor you to make new friends.
The Peaceful Online Friends Project is a beautiful initiative that blends together glob?al connections and self?expression. The project is part of the non?profit organization Kids forPeace, founded by Jill McManigal and Danielle Gram in California in 2006. It is open to all?children, whose ages range between 2 and 17.To date, there are 1,500 children from 17countries participating in the program accord?ing to the organization. Currently, all lettersare written in English.
When children sign up, they can selectif they would rather be matched with a USA peaceful online friend or an international one. Each child is then assigned a pen pal of a similar age. This immediately establishes a pointof connection for the children and facilitates a stronger bond. If the letter writers are in thesame grade, they can chat about schools, their teachers, and what they are studying. Theycan also compare and contrast what different states or countries learn about whether social?ly or academically. Children may also be more likely to write about the issues they are hav?ing if they feel like they are speaking to a peer in a similar situation.
Although online friends may live in different countries, they may also find commonground. This gives the writer an opportunity to express and receive advice or feedback fromthe pen pal.“Hearing first?hand stories from an international pen pal can encourage teensto take someone elses perspective and to think outside of themselves,”writes RebeccaFraser?Thill in Very Well Family.“Having a foreign pen pal can also encourage interest ingeography, history and culture.”

Ⅱ. Text?centered sentences

Even today, when the world is digitally connected, receiving an actual letter in yourmailbox from a distant land is a great way for you to make new friends.
【點石成金】該句用了一個when引導的時間狀語從句,主語是receiving an actualletter in your mailbox from a distant land。
Although online friends may live in different countries, they may also find commonground.
