
At the invitation of the Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (RCISCC), the CPAFFC and the China Science and Technology Association (CSTA) jointly sent a Chinese young scientists’ delegation with Zhang Yutai, vice president of the CSTA, as the head, and Su Guang, vice president of the CPAFFC and the China-Russia Friendship Association, and Bai Chunli, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the deputy heads paid a visit to Russia from June 16 to 23, 2004, and attended the 2004 Chinese and Russian Young Scientists Forum sponsored by the friendship organizations of the two countries in Moscow. The Chinese delegation was composed of representatives from universities and institutions of scientific research in 10 provinces, cities and autonomous regions.

The Forum was held at the conference hall of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on June 17. The opening ceremony was presided over by Y. Kouzminov, chancellor of the School. About 80 Chinese and Russian representatives including leading officials of the Russian International Science and Engineering Federation (RISEF), the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Moscow University, and other universities and institutions of scientific research as well as young scholars attended the forum.
Zhang Yutai and Su Guang respectively on behalf of the Chinese sponsors, the CSTA and the CPAFFC, spoke at the forum. Academician Bai Chunli, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Li Qingquan, vice chancellor of Wuhan University, Professor Xiao Tianyuan, director of the Institute of Automation of Qinghua University, V. Godin, executive secretary of the Sub-Committee of Russia-China Scientific and Technological Cooperation under the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, Academician Y. Gulyaev, president of the RISEF, spoke at the forum. The Chinese and Russian representatives had panel meetings to discuss specific subjects.
M. Nikolaev, vice chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, and V. K. Gusev, chairman of the Committee for Cooperation between the Russian Federation Council and the Chinese National People’s Congress, cordially met with the leading members of the Chinese delegation. The delegation also paid an official call on the Russian Academy of Sciences, and had an in-depth discussion with Academician D. Nekipelov, vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the exchanges and cooperation in information between the two academies of sciences. The delegation also visited Saint Petersburg and Korolev, the city of space industry.
The Forum, an important event of the series of activities in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia and the Friendship Year of Chinese and Russian Youth, has helped enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the academies of sciences, scientific research institutions and young scientific and technological workers of the two countries, and laid a good foundation for future cooperation between the two sides.
