From April 28 to May 2, the delegation of the Japanese Dietmen’s League for Japan-China Friendship led by its president Masahiko Komura visited Beijing and Dalian. Premier Wen Jiabao met with the delegation in Beijing on April 28. The Premier told the delegation that his successful visit to Japan in April was the result of the concerted efforts made by the governments and people of China and Japan. He said, Sino-Japanese friendship accords with the trend of the times and the desire of the people. The visit has increased mutual understanding and trust between the leaders and people of the two countries and given impetus to the further improvement and development of bilateral relations. An important achievement of the visit is that the two sides have decided on the contents, framework and key cooperation areas of the mutually beneficial strategic Sino-Japanese relations. The next step is how to speedily implement these important consensuses. A turn for the better in Sino-Japanese relations is what the people of the two countries have longed for and feel happy. It has not come about easily and should be treasured dearly. Bilateral relations will have no future if they retrogress. We should solve the problems in bilateral relations
properly in line with the principles of taking into consideration the overall situation, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and mutual benefit. The two countries should view and handle the direction of the development of their bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.
Vice Chairman Sheng Huaren of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan met with the delegation on separate occasions.
