According to National Bureau of Statistics， the output of yam in Shandong province reached 4.77 million tons in 2006，ascending by 25.65% comparing with that of 2005， and making Shandong achieve the first place among other districts(See Sheet 1). In 2006， the production capacity of cotton spinning exceeded 90 million spindles(according to the output of yam in 2006)， thereinto， 23 million spindles， nearly 25% of the total， came from Shandong province. According to the consumption amount of cotton， the whole nation consumed 11.90 million tons in the year of 2006，and Shandong province expended 3.30 million tons， accounted for 27% of the total.
