Hangzhou to organizeInternational SilkForum 2007 in Oct

State National Cocoon and SilkCoordination Office， China SilkAssociation， and Hangzhou Governmenthave planned to organize an \"InternationalSilk Forum\" during October 2007， inHangzhou City， Zhejiang Province.

According to organizers， this forumwould be the highest level internationalmeeting of Silk Industry in recent years，

Exchange of views and ideasto improve quality of silk products，expansion of consumer market andinternational trade， enhance technologicalinnovations and raw silk electronicdetection among various countrieswould be the main focus of the event.During the forum， China will release SilkIndustry Development Report of 2007.

Top six provinces orcity in terms of apparelproducts export

According to latest statistics releasedby http://ctc.webtextiles.com， fromJanuary to May this year， China's exportof garment and accessories valued at36.7 billion dollars， up by 18.3%， and theexport of yarn， textile fabric and finishedproducts totaled at 20.63 billion dollars，went up by 10.9%.

From January to May， the top sixprovinces or city in terms of apparelproducts export are Guangdong，Zhejiang， Jiangsu， Shanghai， Shandongand Fuiian.

Chinese Mills Set to Expand Import Purchases

Chinese mills are clearly concerned about the dwindling supplies of local highgrades. Imported cotton is also now competitive with local cotton， following the rapidrise in local prices. Most SM 1-1/8\" quotes， after VAT and import taxes， are now250 to 400 yuan per ton below the price of local cotton. The overall demand for highgrades has also accelerated from a shift in domestic yam demand to the higher-countyams. This first led to an increase in demand for Xinjiang top grades and has nowspread to import styles. Sliding-scale import quotas are also available in a substantialvolume， following the issuance in early June of an additional 1.1 million tons inquotas.

China's domestic yam prices are also rallying in the 32 and 40-count combedyarns， which is adding to spinners' confidence in building nearby stocks.

Zhejiang Fears over Dropping Export RebateRate

Recently， Chinese Government announced that the export rebate rate of 2831categories accounted for about 37 percent of total export products would be adjustedfrom July 1.

The export rebate rate of clothing will decrease from 13 to 11 percent. Zhejiangprovince， which is the biggest exporter， will be affected the most. Presently， profit ofclothing industry here is about 7 percent， which is feared to see a slump.

The export rebate rate of sewing machinery industry will decrease from 13 to 9percent. In the first five months of the current fiscal year， Zhejiang province exportedUS $108 million worth of textile machines， with a rise rate of 107 percent.

The silk industry of Zbejiang province is not much concerned about these exportrebate adjustment.
