Glancing up， I can make out the fluttering yellow of the flag in the distance. Gripping the club， I take a wild and untrained swing at the ball， somehow manage to connect， and send it flying high over the green to drop out of sight somewhere in the water behind the hole. With a frown and a resigned shrug I take my seat， watching as the screen in front of me replays my disaster of a shot again and again.

You see， this is no ordinary golf course I'm playing on. I'm in the basement of the Jingdu Business Hotel， Beijing， holding a golf club for the first time in years and playing a couple of holes on a 3D golf simulator – one of the most advanced of its kind in existence.

你瞧，這不是我通常玩的高爾夫。我是在北京晶都國際商務酒店的地下室，這還是我首次用目前最高級的3D模擬器打高爾夫。

Owned and operated by Avid Golf， a foreigner-run golf events organiser， the $50，000 golf simulator is one of the only systems of its kind in Beijing. The setup is surprisingly simple – a 10'x10' screen， a whopping great big sensor， a computer and different floor mats to stand on to give the feel of various terrain features is all that's required to operate one.

該模擬器由國外賽事組織Avid Golf擁有并經營，價值達5萬美元，是北京為數不多的高爾夫模擬系統之一。它的裝備非常簡單——一個10'x10'的屏幕，一個龐大的傳感器，一部電腦以及用來站立體驗不同地形的墊子。擁有了這些就能隨心所欲地玩了。

Using motion tracking technology， the simulator tracks the movement of both the golfer's swing and the ball， using this data to work out where the ball would have landed. The system is incredibly realistic， recreating weather and ground conditions perfectly， and capable of several different angles from which to view the results of your shot.

該模擬器運用了動作跟蹤技術，可以同時跟蹤打高爾夫人的揮桿動作和球的移動，根據這些數據就能計算出球的落地點了。這個系統非常寫實，不僅完美地創建了天氣和場地環境，還能讓你從不同的視角看到自己揮桿的結果。

Where Avid Golf's simulator REALLY scores points， though， is on the graphics. The recreations of courses around the world - ranging from the world famous (St. Andrews， Pebble Beach， Harbour Town and Spyglass) to local links – are meticulously recreated and beautiful to look at. A Surround Sound system helps give the impression of being outdoors， with a soundtrack of bird songs， water noise and the whistle of the wind. In short， it's about as close to the real thing as you're going to get.

\"It's much more realistic than the old photo-based simulators\" explains Avid's Jeff Stone. \"Every bush， tree and light stand has been accounted for. We've got thirty courses on the system here， and they're just like the courses in real life.\"
