一個外國人眼中的《走向世界》

As a foreigner who has to read many articles for every issue， I am sure that the most interesting for me are the ones that tell me more about the place where I live – the news about what is planned for Shandong in the future and insights into historical places and people who have done or are doing something to add lustre to the reputation of the province.

Some of the most attractive articles have been about the different places in Shandong and about the interesting characters who have lived here at one time or another. There is a rich vein of such material to be mined and I am certain that there is nothing more guaranteed to encourage the tourism industry in Shandong than lively articles highlighting this heritage.This brings us to opening in another direction. As Shandong people from many walks of life have the opportunity to travel to places outside the province and outside China， they bring back news and pictures of different worlds. Openings has served as a useful medium for introducing Shandong people to places which they may never visit but about which they now know at least something more than they studied in their geography class. Of course， these are only snapshots and subjective opinions but they should encourage us all to learn more about places that were not even a name to us before.

Another area of interest to readers both Chinese and foreign is the type of article that brings under the spotlight individuals who have made some kind of special contribution to the province. This is usually of most general interest when it concerns ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. It is encouraging for everyone to know that the efforts that they make to improve Shandong are appreciated and the highlighting of such contributions is most welcome.

I am sure that as opening continues Openings will continue to play a leading role in the process. I am proud to have played a small part in that exercise.

作為雜志的英文顧問，我要讀《走向世界》每一期的很多的文章，讓我最感興趣的就是那些有關(guān)介紹我居住的地方的文字——山東遠(yuǎn)期規(guī)劃的新聞，名勝古跡的描述，人們?yōu)樯綎|做過以及正在做的貢獻(xiàn)等等。

那些最有吸引力的文章是關(guān)于介紹山東各地的風(fēng)土人情和那些不同時期居住在這里的有趣的人們。這里有如此多的資源可以挖掘，我想沒有比用生動的文字來描述這里的文化遺產(chǎn)更能保證山東旅游業(yè)的發(fā)展了。

說到這里，就把我們引向了另外一個話題。山東的各界人士都有機(jī)會出省或者出國旅游，他們將各地的見聞和拍攝的圖片帶回山東。《走向世界》便成為一個很好的媒體，向人們介紹不同地方的風(fēng)土人情。人們也許從來都沒去過這些地方，不過現(xiàn)在，他們至少比上學(xué)時地理課上了解的多很多了。當(dāng)然，這些文章體現(xiàn)的只是一些快照和主觀的見解，不過卻能讓我們了解到以前甚至連名字都叫不出的地方。

另外一個讓中外讀者都比較感興趣的內(nèi)容就是介紹為山東做過特殊貢獻(xiàn)的那些名人的文章。尤其是關(guān)注普通人做出杰出貢獻(xiàn)這類的文章常常得到人們的普遍關(guān)注。這激勵著每個人，讓他們了解自己為山東的發(fā)展所做的貢獻(xiàn)是非常令人欣賞和贊揚(yáng)的，同時也強(qiáng)調(diào)了這樣的貢獻(xiàn)是最讓人欣喜和感動的。

我確信隨著改革開放的不斷深入，《走向世界》會一直走在這個進(jìn)程的前列。而我，能為《走向世界》貢獻(xiàn)自己的微薄之力，也感到非常驕傲。……
