1）more than后直接接名詞.表示“不只是”；“不僅僅”等。例如：

Peace is more than the absence of war. 和平不只是意味著沒有戰(zhàn)爭。

2）more than 用來修飾形容詞、分詞和動(dòng)詞，表示所修飾的詞份量不重或含義不夠, 而加以說明，譯成漢語可為“非常”，相當(dāng)于“very”或“much”。例如：

He is more than selfish. 他非常自私。

3） more than 后接單數(shù)名詞，謂語動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)。例如：

More than one person has been concerned in this. 這里涉及的不止是一個(gè)人。

4） more A than B 結(jié)構(gòu)。用來比較兩種說法的正確程度，即前一種說法（A項(xiàng)）比后一種說法（B項(xiàng)）要正確一些，表示“與其……不如……”。在這個(gè)句型里，more 后不能用形容詞或副詞的比較級(jí)形式，而要用原級(jí)形式，此外還可用名詞、代詞、動(dòng)詞、介詞短語等。例如：

① He is more good than bad.與其說他壞不如說他好。

② It is more a poem than a picture. 與其說這是一幅畫，不如說這是一首詩。
