Confucius Institute

孔子學院(Confucius Institute)即孔子學堂。它并非一般意義上的大學，而是推廣漢語文化的教育和文化交流機構，是一個非營利性的社會公益機構?？鬃訉W院最重要的一項工作就是給世界各地的漢語學習者提供規范、權威的現代漢語教材；提供最正規、最主要的漢語教學渠道?？鬃訉W院總部設在北京，2007年4月9日掛牌。境外的孔子學院都是其分支機構，主要采用中外合作的形式開辦?？鬃邮侵袊鴤鹘y文化的代表人物，選擇孔子作為漢語教學品牌是中國傳統文化復興的標志。為推廣漢語文化，中國政府在1987年成立了“國家對外漢語教學領導小組”，簡稱為“漢辦”，孔子學院就是由“漢辦”承辦的。

2004年11月21日，全球第一所“孔子學院”在韓國首都首爾掛牌。到2010年，全球將建成500所孔子學院和孔子課堂。

自2004年11月全球首家孔子學院在韓國成立以來，已有260余所孔子學院遍布全球，成為傳播中國文化和推廣漢語教學的全球品牌和平臺。

孔子學院是在借鑒國外有關機構推廣本民族語言經驗的基礎上，在海外設立的以教授漢語和傳播中國文化為宗旨的非營利性公益機構。它秉承孔子“和為貴”、“和而不同”的理念，推動中外文化的交流與融合，以建設一個持久和平、共同繁榮的和諧世界為宗旨。

Instead of being an ordinary school， the Confucius Institute is a non-profit-making public-welfare institution involved in the dissemination of Chinese culture and cultural exchanges. The most important work for the Confucius Institute is to provide standard and authoritative textbooks of modern Chinese as well as some genuine channels to study Chinese. The headquarters of the Confucius Institute， which was established on April 9， 2007， is located in Beijing.

The Confucius Institutes out with the territory of China， which are run by means of Chinese-foreign cooperation， are all branches of the Confucius Institute in Beijing. Confucius is a representative figure of Chinese culture. So choosing Confucius as the brand for Chinese language teaching means the revival of traditional Chinese culture. With a view to popularizing Chinese culture， in 1987 the Chinese government established the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL). The Confucius Institute is run by this NOCFL.

On November 21， the first Confucius Institute in the world was unveiled in Seoul， Korea. By 2010， throughout the world， 500 Confucius Institutes will be established.

Since the first Confucius Institute was established， thus far， more than 260 such institutes have been established worldwide， which have become the global brand and platform to spread Chinese culture and popularize the teaching of Chinese.

The Confucius Institute is a non-profit making institution involved in teaching Chinese and spreading Chinese culture， which is established in foreign countries by drawing references from the related institutions engaged in popularizing their own native languages. Carrying forward the ideas of “Harmony is valuable” and “harmonious but different” initiated by Confucius， the Confucius Institute aims to promote the communication and interchange of Chinese and foreign culture so as to build a harmonious world of eternal peace and common prosperity.
