８０后、９０后

梁啟超老先生曾經有句警世名言“少年強則國強”，時至今日，這恐怕也是放之四海而皆準的真理。可是，現如今，我們的青少年一代，我們的80后、90后也成了廣受詬病的一代，各種批評指責之聲不絕于耳，這其中有他們自身的原因，也有這個時代帶給他們的。不管怎樣，真心希望我們的80后，90后能活出真我風采!

Wikipedia Kid 維基一代

Meaning: A student who has poor research skills and lacks the ability to

think critically.

顧名思義，Wikipedia kid肯定和Wikipedia有關。Wikipedia即維基百科，是一部用不同語言寫成的網絡百科全書，也被稱作“人民的百科全書”。當我們在互聯網上輸入一個詞條時，很多時候，我們都可以從維基百科那里找到答案。但是現在這種方便的查找資料的方式，越來越受到質疑，特別是對于我們的青少年來說，如果他們輕點鼠標，就可以找到問題的答案，那是不是也太容易了點呢?所以Wikipedia Kid就用來指那些缺乏鉆研精神、批判精神和獨立思考能力的人。但話又說回來，有了這么方便的方式而不采用，那互聯網技術的飛速發(fā)展又有什么意義呢?這是一個值得我們深思的問題。

I was very impressed by the report’s neologism: “Wikipedia kids”. Too many graduates of high schools know how to cut and paste， but they fail to learn independently and they expect success without putting in the effort.(“維基一代”這個新詞給我留下了深刻的印象。太多的中學生只懂得怎么去剪切、粘貼，但他們卻沒有學會獨立思考，都想不勞而獲。)

Parachute Kid 小留學生

Meaning: Children sent to a new country to live alone or with a caregiver while their parents remain in their home country.

每個父母都想自己的小孩從小就接受最好的教育，于是出國成了很好的選擇。和以前大學畢業(yè)后再出國留學不同，現在留學生的年齡日趨低齡化。于是就有了Parachute Kid，即指那些在很小的時候就離開父母到另一個國家獨立生活和求學的孩子。有了Parachute Kid，當然相應地有Astronaut Parents，和用parachute(降落傘)來形容那些空降到異國他鄉(xiāng)的孩子一樣，因為要去看小孩而需經常飛來飛去的父母當然就是Astronaut Parents了。

A UCLA study， using numbers from visa applications， estimated that there are 40，000 Taiwanese parachute kids aged 8 to 18 in the United States.(據加利福尼亞大學洛杉磯分校的研究表明，利用簽證申請的數據推測，在美國大約有4萬名年齡界于8歲到18歲的臺灣小留生。)

Trophy Child 獎杯小孩

Meaning: A child used to impress other people and enhance the status of the parent or parents.

“望子成龍，望女成鳳”可以說是天下為人父母者最大的心愿。可是看看我們身邊被各種培訓、考級、比賽重擔壓得喘不過氣的孩子，再看看樂此不疲的父母，就讓人不得不心生疑惑:父母到底是出于什么目的才有如此動力呢?Trophy Child指的就是這一群被父母當做炫耀資本的小孩。孩子是父母生命的延續(xù)，但他們更是完整的個體啊。

Hausner says some youngsters are often “trophy children” whose parents see them as nothing more than an extension of themselves. (豪斯納說現在很多的青少年都是“獎杯小孩”，他們的父母都把他們當作自己的延續(xù)而寄予了厚望。)

NEET 啃老族

Meaning: The people who can offer nothing in education， employment or training and lives off his parents.

啃老族這個詞我們再熟悉不過了。指那些不學習、不工作也沒接受任何培訓，依靠父母生活的人。是“Not in Education， Employment or Training”首字母的縮略語。NEET是英國的說法，美國英語則稱之為“boomerang child/kid”。Boomerang的原義是回飛鏢，指一種平的、彎的，通常是木制的飛鏢，當投出去后能回到投擲者手中。在此用來指“回巢的啃老族”是不是也非常形象呢?

An investigation indicates that about 70% of the unemployed young people in our country now live off their parents， thus becoming NEETs.(調查顯示，我國目前約七成失業(yè)青年靠父母養(yǎng)活，因而成為啃老族。)
