嘛去?ma qu
Means:
What are you up to? It's the expression short for 干嘛去(gan ma qu), but干(gan, means do) is often omitted in dailylanguage, especially in northern part of China. It's used asgreeting when two friends meet each other, but it's not neces-sary to answer it seriously. Because people who asked thisquestion don't really want to know where are you going, just away to say' Hi', or 'Good morning', 'Good afternoon'.
Example:
Frank: Morning Jane,嘛去?
Jane: Hey Frank, I am just going for a walk./I am goingto shopping.
