In 2009, the Chinese government approved planning for 9 regional development zones, including plans for the Taiwan StraitWest Bank Economic Zone, the Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone, the Jiangsu Coastal Region, the Tureen River Regionand Yellow River High-efficient Ecological Economic Zone, among others. It was a rare moment in Chinese history for thegovernment to issue so many regional economic development olans at the same time. The new regional economic layout hascome into being gradually, with the Yangtsz River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beibu Gulf, Circum-Bohai-Sea Region, West Bank ofthe Taiwan Strait, Northeast China, along with the Middle Regions and Western Regions, all featuring unique development strate-gies based on their different advantages and resources.
