Are You God’s Wife?

你是上帝的妻子嗎?

It’s a cold day in December in New York. A little boy about 10-year-old was standing in front of a shoe store on Broadway(1)，barefooted(2)， peering(3) through the window， and shivering(4) with cold.

A lady approached the boy and said，“My little fellow(5)， why are you looking so earnestly(6) in that window?”

“I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes，”the boy replied.

The lady took him by the hand and went into the store， and asked the clerk(7) to get a half dozen pairs of socks for the boy. Then she asked the clerk if he could give her a basin(8) of water and a towel(9). The clerk quickly brought them to her. She took the little fellow to the back part of the store， removing(10) her gloves(11) ， knelt(12) down， washed his little feet， and dried(13)them with the towel. By this time the clerk had returned with the socks.

Placing a pair upon the boy’s feet， she then purchased(14) him a pair of shoes， and tying(15)up the remaining pairs ofsocks， gave them to the boy. She patted(16) him on the head and said， “No doubt(17)， my little fellow， you feel more comfortable now?”

As she turned to go， the astonished(18) boy caught her by the hand， and looking up in her face with tears in his eyes， asked the question with these words， “Are you God’s wife?”

小馬過河

As he was running with the bag on his back， he came to a small river. The colt could not decide whether he could cross it. Looking around， he saw a cow(4) grazing(5) nearby. He asked， “Aunt Cow， could you tell me if I can cross the river?”The cow told him that he could and that the river was not very deep， just knee high.

The colt was crossing the river when a squirrel(6) jumped down a tree and stopped him. The squirrel shouted， “Colt， stop! You’ll drown(7)! One of my friends drowned just yesterday in the river.” Not knowing what to do， the colt went home to consult(8) his Mom.

He told his Mom his experience on the way. His mother said，“My child， don’t always listen to others(9) . You’d better go and try yourself(10). Then you’ll know what to do.”

Later， at the river， the squirrel stopped the colt again，“Little horse， it’s too dangerous(11) !”

“No， I want to try myself，” answered the colt. Then he crossed the river carefully(12) .

On the other side of the river， the colt realized(13) that the river was neither as shallow(14) as the cow said nor as deep as the squirrel told him.
