1.They have organized games and the staff dress up as clowns.他們組織游戲，工作人員裝扮成小丑。dress up意為“穿上盛裝；裝扮；打扮”。例如：

She dressed up for the ball.她穿上盛裝去參加舞會。

2.Peter,lend me your pen.彼得，把你的鋼筆借給我。

lend意為“借（出）”，后面可接雙賓語，也可與介詞to連用。borrow作“借”講時，表示的是“借入”，后面不可接雙賓語，一般與介詞from連用。例如：

You can’t lend it to others.你不能把它借給別人。

You can borrow some books from the school library.你可以從學校圖書館里借幾本書。

3.For instance,they can help you to compare two different products so that you can buy the one you really need.例如，它們能夠幫助你比較兩件不同的產品，以便你能夠買你真正需要的那一件。

句中的so that引導的是目的狀語從句。so that引導目的狀語從句時，從句中常用情態動詞can,could,may,might等。例如：

I took a taxi so that I could get there earlier.我乘坐出租車，為的是早點到那里。

Speak clearly so that they may understand you.說清楚些，以便他們能聽懂你的話。

4.At times an ad can lead you to buy something you don’t need at all.有時候，廣告能夠讓你去買你根本不需要的東西。

at times意為“有時、偶爾”，與sometimes意思相近。例如：

At times she was late for school.有時她上學遲到。

5.Here are some things they’ve learned from scientific studies.這兒是一些他們從科學研究中學到的東西。

learn from意為“向……學習、從……學習……”。例如：

You can learn English from magazines and newspapers.你們可以從雜志和報紙中學習英語。

6.Many ads are aimed specially at teenagers.很多廣告是特別針對年輕人的。

aim at的意思是“針對；致力于；旨在；瞄準”等。例如：

This programme is aimed at young people.這個節目是針對年輕人的。

7.Have you packed the luggage yet?你把行李收拾好了嗎？

I’ve already put it in the garage.我已經把它放進車庫了。

I haven’t cleaned out the refrigerator yet.我還沒有把冰箱清理干凈。

already與yet都與現在完成時連用，但already(已經)一般用在肯定句中，yet（到目前為止；至這/那時“一般用在疑問句或否定句中。

8....and so far has brought thousands of overseas Chinese students to China to look for their families’roots.……到目前為止，已經帶動成千上萬的海外華人學生來尋找他們的家族根源。

so far意為“到目前為止”，是一個固定詞組，一般與現在完成時連用。例如：

three letters.到目前為止，我已收到了三封信。

9.Thanks toIn Search of Roots,I am beginning to understand my Chinese roots,and who I am.多虧了“尋根”，我才開始明白我的中國根以及我是誰。

thanks to意為“多虧了……；幸虧”，用來說明原因。例如：

Thanks to your help,I worked out the math problem.多虧了你的幫助，我才算出這道數學題。

10.I’m looking forward to finding out more about my roots during my time here.我期望能找到有關我的根的更多的事情。

look forward to是一個固定短語，意為“盼望；期待”，to為介詞，后面可跟名詞、代詞、動詞-ing形式作賓語，不可跟動詞原形。例如：

I am looking forward to seeing you.我期盼著與你見面。

11.The walls are made from old glass bottles that are glued together.墻是用粘合在一起的舊玻璃瓶子制成的。

be made from表示“由……制成”，指制成品中看不出原材料；be made of表示“由……制成”，指制成品中能看出原材料。例如：

Paper is made from wood.紙是用木材造的。

That house is made of stones.那座房子是用石頭建造的。
