Look what you find along the way!

If you have ever been discouraged because of failure， please read on.

For often， achieving what you set out to do is not the important thing. Let me explain.

Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working， a couple of older boys stopped by to watch.

\"What are you doing?\" asked one of the visitors.

\"We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth!\" one of the brothers volunteered excitedly.

The older boys began to laugh， telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible.

After a long silence， one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders， worms and a wide assortment1 of insects. He removed the lid2 and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing3 visitors.

Then he said quietly and confidently， \"Even if we don't dig all the way through the earth， look what we found along the way!\"

Their goal was far too ambitious， but it did cause them to dig. And that is what a goal is for -- to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen.

But not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will end successfully. Not every relationship will endure. Not every hope will come to pass. Not every endeavor will be completed. Not every dream will be realized.

But when you fall short of4 your aim， perhaps you can say， \"Yes， but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!\"

It is in the digging that life is lived. And I believe it is joy in the journey， in the end， that truly matters.

很多時候，得到了你想要的東西并不是最重要的事。讓我來解釋一下。

兩兄弟決定在他們的房子后面挖一個深坑。挖的過程中，有幾個大一點的男孩兒路過看著他們。

“你們在做什么?”其中一個圍觀者問道。

“我們打算一直挖到地球的另一邊!”其中一個兄弟興奮地回答到。

大一點的男孩兒笑了起來，告訴兩兄弟想要一直挖到底地球地另一邊是根本不可能的。

沉默了很久，正在挖掘的一個男孩拿出一個壇子，里面裝滿了蜘蛛、小蟲和各種各樣的昆蟲。他打開壇子的蓋子，給嘲笑他們的訪客展示其中美妙的內(nèi)容。

然后他平靜而堅定地說，“即使我們不能一直挖到地球的另一邊，看看我們一路上都發(fā)現(xiàn)了什么!”

他們的目標(biāo)是太遠大了，但這正是他們挖掘的動力。而這就是目標(biāo)的力量——激勵著我們朝著選擇的方向前進。

但是并不是每個目標(biāo)都要充分地達到。也不是每份工作都要成功地完成。不是每種關(guān)系都會持續(xù)。不是每個愿望都能實現(xiàn)。不是每次努力都有結(jié)果。不是每個夢想都能變成現(xiàn)實。

但是當(dāng)目標(biāo)不能達成時，或許你可以說，“是的，但是看看這一路我都發(fā)現(xiàn)了什么!看看努力給我的生活帶來多么美妙的東西!”

生活就是在不斷挖掘中繼續(xù)。我相信，不論在旅途中還是旅途結(jié)束時，挖掘的過程是最重要的。
