你真的“介意”嗎？

現在，有不少同學對交際英語“Would you mind ...? 介意與不介意”的用法及其應答用語模凌兩可，似是而非。下面對這一語言點簡要歸納如下：

1. mind作名詞，意為“思想，想法”，如：change one’s mind (改變主意)，make up one’s mind (下定決心)等。mind作動詞，意為“介意，反對”，常用于表達委婉、客氣的請求。

1）mind用于疑問句或否定句中，可與條件狀語從句連用，表示請求或許可。例如：

It’s very cold inside. Would you mind if I close the window?

2）“Do / Would you mind doing ...?與Do you mind + 人稱代詞賓格或形容詞性物主代詞 + doing”的意思不同。

“Do / Would you mind doing ...”意為“請你……好嗎？”，而“Do you mind + 人稱代詞賓格或形容詞性物主代詞 + doing ...?”則表示征求對方的意見，意為讓某人做某事。例如：

Would you mind our / us listening to the light music when you are reading English?

Do you mind turning off the radio?

3）在回答“Do / Would you mind doing ...?”或“Do / Would you mind if I do ...?”等疑問句時，要用客氣、委婉的方式來回答。若表示同意，就用“No， not at all. / Of course not. / Certainly not. / No， do it please.”若表示不同意，則用：“Sorry， but I do. / I’m afraid.”例如：

—Do / Would you mind turning off the computer for me? —No， of course not.

—Do / Would you mind if I take your temperature? —Sorry， but I do.

4)“Never mind”常用于口語中，意為“沒關系，不要緊”，常用于下列場合：

A)安慰對方。例如：

—Oh， there is something wrong with my electronic dic-

tionary.

—Never mind. Here is mine.

B)用作別人向你表示歉意時的答語。例如：

—I’m sorry. I can’t foll-

ow you.

—Never mind. Take it easy.

C)用作對別人幫助或求助的答語。例如：

—Let me help you solve the problem.

—Never mind. I can solve it by myself.

2. 用來征求意見、建議和邀請的表達方式

1）征求對方意見

Shall we + 動詞原形。例如：

—Shall we go sightseeing in the rural area this week-

end?

—OK / Sure / Certainly / Of course.

Will / Could you please (not) + 動詞原形。例如：

Will / Could you please help me solve the chemistry problems?

Would you mind helping me solve the chemistry problems?

You’d better (not) / 動詞原形。例如：

You’d better not cough or sneeze in public.

2)邀請對方。例如：

Let’s go to the library together?

3)提出建議

Why not / Why don’t you + 動詞原形；What / How about + v-ing。例如：

Why don’t you get her a scarf as her birthday gift?

Why not give her a scarf as her birthday present?

What / How about buying a nice scarf for her birthday?

D) You should / You are supposed to + 動詞原形。例如：

You shouldn’t (aren’t supposed to) eat unhealthy food often.
