The rising sun flames clouds. Through the airplane window I am enjoying the clouds with golden edges. In a few hours I will set foot on the soil of China, a country that has always been in my dreams. Thoughts thronged my mind. Perhaps, in my life I will never have a chance to travel to China, a faraway, strange and mysterious country; but I have walked a long way to try to understand it.
When I studied at the Institute of Architecture, I came to know the concept of feng shui (geomantic omen) for the first time. Out of curiosity, I began to study it. I had never expected that it would reveal to me an exciting and brand-new civilization.
So, China has left its imprint on me. This ancient yet modern great civilization carries tradition and history of innovation. Hence, the thought of learning Chinese arose spontaneously. I continue to learn Chinese to the present.
My graduation dissertation is on
feng shui.
If you want to have a better understanding about feng shui and Chinese culture, how can you not learn Chinese? Since then, I’ve strengthened my determination in this regard. The Chinese character is a complex of es- thetics and riddles.
Through studying its culture and history, exchanging with others and going to different places to learn the language, I’ve learned to look at the world from a different perspective. To me, learning Chinese is a journey of discovery.
The dream of going to China is about to come true.
I am getting impatient. Through the airplane window I am enjoying the clouds with golden edges. I will soon arrive in the place that I have always dreamed about.
The sun has risen and spreads its rays over my face through the window. And that was the window of my bedroom.
It turns out the trip to China was a dream, a beautiful dream.
