A Story of Little Quyuan

Quyuan is a great poet（詩人） in China. When he was a little boy, he saw many poor* people. They were hungry every day. He wanted to help them.

One day, he found a big rock* near his house. There was a hole* in the rock. Some sand（沙子） was leaking（漏出） out of the hole. Then he had a good idea. At night, he carried some rice with a big bag, and poured the rice near the hole.

The next day, some poor people found the rice. They were surprised（驚訝的） but very happy. They carried the rice back home and cooked it. Every day there was a lot of rice near the hole. Who helped them?

One night, some poor men hid* near the rock. Then they found Quyuan did it. At this time, Quyuans father came and said, “Oh, its you! You stole* the rice from our home!

Quyuan said, “Dad, Im sorry. I didnt tell you about it.” His father smiled, “No, you did it right. Lets go home now.”

On their way home, his father said, “My son, if you want to help all the poor men, you should work hard and be a good minister（大臣） in our country.*” Quyuan nodded（點頭）.

From then on*, he worked very hard and became* a great poet and good minister.

In China, we have a special festival to honor（紀念） Quyuan. That is Dragon Boat Festival.

Dragon Boat Festival is on May 5th of Chinese Lunar Calendar（農歷）. And its June 12th this year.

What do people do on Dragon Boat Festival? Lets see!

On Dragon Boat Festival, people will have dragon boat races（賽龍舟）. Look, the dragon boat race is wonderful!

People will eat zongzi on Dragon Boat Festival. Wow, what a big zongzi!

We can see some mugwort（艾蒿） hanging on the doors or windows.

People like to carry incense（熏香） bags on Dragon Boat Festival. Look, the childrens incense bags are beautiful!
