International Exchanges
At the invitation of Russian International Federation for Peace and Conciliation and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a 6-member CPAPD delegation, headed by CPAPD Secretary General Mr. Zhu Rui, attended the international enlarged advisory meeting of the BRICS countries’ peace organizations in Moscow from March 4 to 5, and visited the U.S. from March 6 to 10, 2013.
During the meeting in Moscow, Mr. Zhu made a speech entitled “” at the plenary session and met with his foreign counterparts, exploring the approaches to strengthen exchanges and practical cooperation in the future between the CPAPD and its foreign partner organizations. The participants decided to further consolidate the mechanism of the BRICS peace and development forum within which two international meetings had been held in Beijing and New Delhi respectively.
In Washington D.C., the CPAPD delegation called on the Brookings Institution, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and conducted heat discussions with experts from above-mentioned institutions on issues of common concern such as the Sino-US relations, regional and international security situations and nuclear disarmament. The delegation also visited the AFSC Office in D.C., sharing with its staff the detailed discussion of bilateral cooperation in 2013.
At the respective invitation of the Portuguese Council of Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) and World Peace Council (WPC, headquartered in Greece), a CPAPD delegation led by its Vice-President Liu Jingqin paid a friendly visit to Portugal, Germany and Greece from October 24th to November 3rd, 2012. In Portugal, the delegation met with the leadership of the Portuguese-Chinese Relationship Group of the Portuguese Parliament, and had a roundtable meeting with the CPPC discussing the possibility of future exchanges and cooperation between the two organizations. In Germany, the delegation participated in the breakfast meeting organized by the Korber-Stiftung, and had a working meeting with the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt on the issues of common concern. In Greece, the delegation met with the leadership of the WPC and Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) for a friendly discussion on the hot regional and international issues, future exchanges and cooperation among them.

At the invitation of the Cambodian Institute of Cooperation and Peace, Mr. Hou Hongyu, Chief of Research Division, CPAPD, together with an assistant visited Cambodia from December 14 to 30, 2012. During their stay, they had extensively discussions and exchanges with Cambodian NGO regulation government bodies and NGOs on Cambodian NGO development, including Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Cambodian Institute of Cooperation and Peace, International Relations Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, Cambodia’s Development Policy Research Institute, Peace and Development Institute, STAR Kampuchea, Cooperation Committee for Cambodia, Positive Change for Cambodia and Cambodia NGO Forum. They had thought-provoking dicussions.
Some NGOs representatives of Asian countries took a study tour to China and attended the observance of the International Day of Peace. Invited by CPAPD, scores of NGOs representatives of 10 African countries—Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, East Timor, Myanmar-- took a study tour to China and participated in the observance of the International Day of Peace and China-Southeast Asia Peace and Development Forum from 20-30 September 2012 held in Shenzhen SAR. The participants had heated discussions on how to enhance state to state and people to people relations and came up with some good proposals. CPAPD vice president Liu Jingqin met the group and experts from CPC international Department and Academy of Social Sciences briefed the group on China’s stance on some international hot issues, and China’s domestic development in area of building a harmonious society, etc. The group also went to Nanning in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for a visit where the participants had exchanges with local experts and officials on the building and development of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and also toured new rural villages.
Some NGOs representatives of African countries had a study tour to China. Invited by CPAPD, seven NGOs representatives of 5 African countries- Egypt, Tunis, Nigeria, Madagasca and Namibia -- led by Dr. Helmy Hadidy, president of Egyptian Solidarity Committee, took a study tour to China from 9-20 July 2012. During their stay in Beijing, The group was met by Mr. Yu Zhengui, CPAPD vice president and China Islamic Association vice president and exchanged views on issues of common concern, and also had exchanges with experts from CPAPD on international situation, and with experts from Civil Affairs Ministry, CPC international Department and Academy of Social Sciences on China’s domestic development including social and economic development, social security policies, China’s growing NGOs. etc., and called on China’s Writers Association as well. The group also participated in the Second China-Africa NGOs Forum held in Suchou, at which Dr. Helmy Hadidy delivered a good speech. The group took a study tour to norththeastern region of China where it had exchanges with experts in agriculture and environment on China’s agricultural policies and environmental protection.
