Beijing needs time to curb pollution

The Beijing municipal government has taken steps to curb the pollution， temporarily shutting down factories and ordering government cars off the roads. “I’m pretty optimistic that this happened at the right time to prompt the most action possible，” said Deborah Seligsohn， an expert on China’s environment at University of California， San Diego. She added that changes would take a while. If Beijing were surrounded by cities that were doing the same thing that Beijing was doing， it would be fine， but it isn’t.

China must stop North Korea’s folly

North Korea conducted its third underground nuclear test on Feb.12th， a key step towards fixing a nuclear warhead to a nuclear ballistic missile. China sees Pyongyang as a bulwark against greater US influence on the Korean peninsula. But North Korea is now on the verge of placing a nuclear warhead to long-range ballistic missiles. Once it has achieved this， the US will come under even greater pressure. China must realize that such a development would not be in its interests.

China becomes the biggest trade nation

China surpassed the US becoming the world’s biggest trading nation last year as measured by the sum of exports and imports of goods， official figures from both countries show. Earlier analysts expected that China would surpass the US as the world’s biggest nation only in 2016. Now they forecast that by 2016 China will become the world leader in terms of GDP. Andrei Shenk， Russian analyst， said， “In my opinion this is quite an optimistic forecast”.
