Airhouse Design Office
A piece of land in a Japanese persimmon (kaki) orchard was offered as the project area for a residentialhouse. The nature scenery is brought into the interior space and adds a peaceful atmosphere to the house.
As the client wanted wide open spaces with high ceilings, a structure composed of a large roof set on topof seven thick columns was used. To secure copious glass windows, private areas are located inside thecolumns while intervals between columns are designated as living, dining and kitchen spaces. With thiscomposition, only the sky and the kaki orchard are visible from the inside, giving the area an open feelingwhile the kaki trees provide a sense of privacy from the outside world, all of which makes for a relaxedatmosphere in the interior areas. The livingroom and terrace is separated by a pieceof translucent curtain, which not onlymakes a natural transition between thesetwo spaces, but also creates a lightnessatmosphere. A tree is planted in thesquare plot on the concrete surface, adding a natural green feeling to theinterior space. The dining space andkitchen are on the platform that higherthan living room. The exquisite droplightshanging from the ceiling expresses anelegant feeling.
As the landscape transforms with thechanging of the kaki seasons, a generousliving space is produced in the housenestled among the kaki trees. Withoutcomplicated design, the house expressesa simple style, which can let the clientfind the beauty of nature.
