Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997 in a Pakistani family whose parents are educators. She is a school student and also a feminist who is famous for her fighting for the womens human rights to accept education.
The youngest Nobel Prize winner, Malala is an advocate for education and womens human rights in her hometown Swat Valley, after blogging for the BBC beginning at age 11.
When she was 15, Malala was shot and seriously wounded by the Pakistani Taliban for advocating girls education. After recovering, she continued to insist on her defiant advocacy. “I demand of leaders we must invest in books instead of bullets,” Malala said in a speech “on behalf of the worlds children”.
Shortly after that, Malala opened a girls school for Syrian refugees in Lebanon. The school, near the Syrian border, can hold up to 200 girls aged 14 to 18. It was paid for by Yousafzais non-profit Malala Fund.
She told Reuters the reason that she chose to open the school in Lebanons Bekaa Valley was “because I believe that the voices of the Syrian refugees need to be heard, and they have been ignored for so long”.
