The 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest of its kind, will be held in Las Vegas on 5 to 8 January 2017. Last year, about 3,000 companies released new products on the expo and Chinese exhibitors accounted for one third of the total exhibitors.

The latest Economic Impact Assessment report released by Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has found that large-scale exhibitions, trade events, conventions and conferences hosted at DWTC in 2015 contributed USD 44 billion towards Dubai’s overall economy –equivalent to 3.1 percent of the emirate’s GDP. The economic impact assessment report observed the impact of MICE events across all sectors including tourism, travel, hospitality and entertainment industries. As an immediate effect of hosting these events at DWTC, a total of 80,400 jobs were secured.

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre hosted 644 events in the first 10 months of this year, of which 59% or 377 were recurrent clients. Its partnership approach and customised solutions have resulted in a strong retention of its client base.

In an experiment, RAI Amsterdam discovered that eventually only 9% of the general waste that was supplied to the lab remained as general waste. Over a whole year, this could result in annual cost savings of over €150,000 euros, proving that waste separation really does pay off in financial terms, too.

Event technology does make event management much easier –61.3 per cent of meeting professionals agreed with this statement and expect that it will develop and change dramatically in the next 10 years. But 92 per cent admit that meeting planners are not making the most of such technology solutions. These were among the key findings of new research carried out for IMEX America by Meeting Professionals International (MPI) providing insight into the views of meeting professionals on event technology.

In November, UBM won two CDP awards: The awards for ‘Biggest Emissions Reduction (relative)’ and for ‘Science Based Targets(SBT). The‘Science Based Target’ defines the company’s position within a global business context and examines what comparative carbon reduction it is responsible for in the effort to keep the global temperature increase, between now and 2050, to below 2 degrees Celsius.

Measured by sales in 2015, four trade fair companies from Germany ranked among the top 10 worldwide, as was shown by a study concluded by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (Auma), Berlin, in August 2016. For example, Messe Frankfurt came third with revenue of 647.8 million euros behind the British organisers Reed Exhibitions (1,183 million euros) and UBM (855.5 million euros). Fourth place goes to the French venue operator, organiser and service provider GL Events, which achieved revenue of 456 million euros.
