This month CCTV-OUTLOOK comes to Australia. We are here for the wine. Sydney is the biggest city in Australia, and the economic, financial, transport, and tourist centre of the country. So we stop here first.
Australia is a multi-cultural country with many immigrants, so they don't have many unique local cuisines. Their liquor-making techniques are imported from Europe. Local ingredients and foreign methods make a unique combination of the Australian style.
Australia is a young country with only less than 200 years of wine-making history, however, its unique climate and environment help make wine from this area popular among new-generation wine lovers.
Certainly, you can't enjoy good wine without good food. Here in Sydney, you can try all kinds of cuisines from different places in the world. Since we're here for the Australian wine, we fi rst try the local food.
The Sydney Seafood Market is the best place to enjoy delicious local food. Here you can pick out the seafood to cook on the spot.
Cooking seafood here is rather simple: eat raw, boil, deep fry, or barbecue it with curry and pepper. The most complicated way to cook it is to bake it with cheese.
The market opens at 4 am each day. Fishermen sell the seafood they catch by the shore, and the vendors in the market will buy what they need before selling it on to customers.
You can also pick up wine at these little stores in the seafood market. Usually white wine goes best with seafood, and red wine goes well with cheese. However, picking a wine that's suitable for your meal is not so simple: you have to not only take what you eat into consideration, but also pick a wine that's best to bring out the different fl avours. For example, the Barossa red wine goes perfect with cheese lobster.
