Duck Soup

鴨湯

One day a visitor came to Mr. Browns house. “I am your cousin from New York，” he said， “and I have brought you a duck to celebrate the visit.” Mr. Brown was happy. He asked his wife to cook the duck， and served the visitor a delicious dinner.

The next day another visitor arrived. “I am the friend of the man who brought you the duck，” he said. Mr. Brown invited him in and gave him a good meal. The next day another visitor arrived， and said he was the friend of the friend of the man who had brought the duck. Again Mr. Brown invited him in for a meal. However， he was getting annoyed1. Visitors seemed to be using his house as a free restaurant.

Then another visitor came， and said he was the friend of the friend of the friend of the man who had brought the duck. Mr. Brown invited him to eat dinner with him. His wife brought some soup to the table and the visitor tasted it. “What kind of soup is this？” asked the visitor， “It tastes just like warm water.”

Mr. Brown said， “That is the soup of the soup of the soup of the duck.”

一天，一名客人拜訪布朗先生的家，他說：“我是你來自紐約的表親，給你們帶來了一只鴨子，慶祝這次拜訪。”布朗先生很高興，他讓妻子煮了鴨子，并讓這位客人美餐了一頓。

后來又來了一位客人，他說他是帶鴨子來的那個(gè)人的朋友的朋友的朋友。布朗先生邀請(qǐng)他一同用餐。布朗太太端來一碗湯放在桌子上，客人嘗了一口，問道：“這是什么湯？嘗起來像溫水一樣。”

布朗先生回答道：“這是鴨湯的鴨湯的鴨湯。”

我就是那個(gè)裁縫！

A man went to see his doctor one day because he had a stomachache. After the doctor had examined him carefully， he said to him. “Well， theres nothing really wrong with you， Im glad to say. Your only trouble is that you worry too much. I had a patient with similar trouble as you a few weeks ago， and I gave him the same advice as Im going to give you. He was worried because he couldnt pay his tailors bills. I told him not to worry about the bills any more. He followed my advice， and when he came to see me again two days ago， he told me that he now feels quite all right.”

“Yes， I know all about that，” answered the patient sadly， “You see， Im that mans tailor！”

一天，一個(gè)男人因胃疼去看醫(yī)生。醫(yī)生仔細(xì)檢查后，說：“我很高興告訴你，你其實(shí)沒什么大毛病，唯一的問題是你擔(dān)心太多了。幾周前，我接待了一個(gè)跟你相似的病人，我給他的建議和給你的一樣。那個(gè)病人擔(dān)心他付不起裁縫的費(fèi)用，我告訴他不要再擔(dān)心那些錢了。他聽從了我的建議。兩天前，他又來我這里，他告訴我，他現(xiàn)在感覺很好。”

“是的，我全知道，我就是那個(gè)人的裁縫！”病人悲傷地說。
