The usage of network vocabulary among college students

【Abstract】Objective： To understand that college students how to use vocabulary on the network， the practicability of network vocabulary among college students， as well as the factors affecting the network vocabulary used. Methods： This study extracted 2500 college students of several universities in Yunnan Province as experimental subjects. Using non-experimental research methods to study the awareness，usage and practicability of the network vocabulary. Results： The number of the results of this study based on the analysis of 2500 college students ，the basic vocabulary to identify the network has 2426， accounting for 97.04% of the total number， which has 33.44 percent of the students fully understand the vocabulary of the network. While only 2.96 percent of the students do not understand the network vocabulary. Conclusion： The network vocabulary is vivid， straightforward， humorous， and fashionable. Thus it is popular among students. Students have strong awareness of network vocabulary. Besides the usage of network vocabulary is higher and its practical among college students.

According to the statistic of the 36th national Internet development report of CNNIC ，in the first half-year of 2015， the number of Internet users added a total of 1894 million； As of June 2015， the Internet penetration rate is 48.8%， the total number of Internet users has been up to 668 million people. Over the same period， the scale of China's mobile phone users reached 594 million. [1]According to the National Bureau of Statistics released the “2014 National Economic and Social Development Statistics Bulletin”shows that in 2014 general of the college students up to 254.77 million. [2] The number of Internet users in China Students accounts for about one-tenth of Chinese Internet users. And now college students own mobile computers and other electronic products basically.Students spend more time each day on the Internet， Therefore， the network words flourish by means of internet technical strength， active in the life of college students. College students use network vocabulary widely in their daily lives .Currently， there are many research about network vocabulary domestically， and these research more focused on its impact on the traditional language of Chinese characters. While research directed to practical aspects needs to be strengthened .Therefore， this study extracted 2500 college students of several universities in Yunnan Province as experimental subjects， analyzing the practicality of network vocabulary by questionnaires.

The network vocabulary source has a wide variety， China's first specialized collection network vocabulary dictionary “China Network Language Dictionary”， published in 2001， received more than 1，300 pieces， about 40 million words of text[3]， but the network vocabulary words mushroomed in recent years， an increasing number are now far more than a collection of time. While it uses widely. Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2015 New Year message said， “We are also full of cadres at all levels to fight” “I want to praise our point of great people.” When words like “Man fight” “point like”for the first time appeared in the Head of State's New Year message， not only shortened the distance between the President and the people， but also make us feel a deep concern from the Chairman. Everyone's life is filled with more or less certain network vocabulary. But how does the network vocabulary to be used in the lives of college students？

1 Subject and Methods

1.1 Study

Using the convenient sampling method， and choosing several different professional colleges and universities， different grades of college students as research subjects 2500 questionnaire in Yunnan. Inclusion criteria： Universities Students in school； those who agreed to participate in this research survey.

1.2 Survey Tools

Taking the survey method， self-questionnaire， survey including grades， age， gender， awareness of the network vocabulary， usage and practicality， the reasons for using the network vocabulary， vocabulary species most used network and the impact of network vocabulary development factor.

1.3 Survey Method

Schools need to be investigated to explain the purpose， to obtain the consent of the school； the use of college students on public elective time， on-site， investigators carried out an explanation， and concentrated questionnaires， while guiding students correctly filled in questionnaires on the spot to recover. Issued 2700 questionnaires were returned of 2543 copies， response rate was 94.2%， excluding 43 invalid questionnaires， 2，500 valid questionnaires， and the effective rate was 92.6%.

1.4 The statistical analysis

Using Excel2016 data entry and statistical analysis with SPSS20， standard deviation adopted constitution and relevant statistics than statistical description.

2 Results

2.1 The awareness and usage conditions of undergraduates for Internet vocabulary

After conducting statistical analysis， we concluded that the proportion of male and female in 2500 college students was 3： 5， the ages of the survey population was between 16-24 years old， The average age was 20 years old. the age standard deviation was 2∫15 / 3. On awareness of the network vocabulary， the number who can basically identify network vocabulary was 2426 among 2500 college students， accounting for 97.04% of the total number， which has 33.44 percent of the students fully understand the vocabulary of the network. While only 2.96 percent of the students do not understand the network vocabulary.

Targeted at the usage of network vocabulary， there were only 3.68% of the students who didnt use network vocabulary， see Table 1.

2.2 Reasons students use the network vocabulary

Because the network vocabulary words are vivid， straightforward， humorous and trendy， most college students prefer to use the network， Table 2.

2.3 The kinds of Students' favorite network words

The network vocabulary can be divided into dialect word vocabulary， homophonic word， diacritical words， compound words， do not analyze the word solution word， analyzing words， overlapping words and foreign words， in “Language Value Language and Linguistics value network，” writed by shi chun-hong.[4] And now the number of network vocabulary kinds have increased， many other types of words， such as abbreviations， old words new ideas， scripts category， Taobao body， Zhen Huan body， Qiong Yao body， Ma Yi-li body， Han Han body and so on. There are about 8 categories which students like most：

2.4 The practicality of network vocabulary among college students

Statistics showed that 98.76 percent of the students think network vocabulary is very practical in their daily life， only 1.24 percent of college students do not think the network vocabulary is helpful in their daily communication.

2.5 The factors affecting the applicability of network vocabulary

Factors affecting the applicability of network vocabulary can be mainly divided in the timeliness of short， low popularization， and no meaning. Table 4

3 Discussions

3.1 Students' awareness of the network vocabulary is strong； the practicality of network vocabulary among college students is high

According to the findings of this study， we can see that there are 97.04% of the students have a better understanding of the network vocabulary， and some students are very familiar to network vocabulary. Only 2.96 percent of the students do not know network vocabulary substantially. So we can conclude that undergraduates for Internet vocabulary have higher awareness. In addition， 96% of the students in the life of the network will be used vocabulary. There are 40.56 percent of the students who often use the network words， 55.76% of the students sometimes use the network vocabulary， only 3.68 percent of the students are not using the network vocabulary. The reasons why college students prefer to use the network vocabulary vary， but totally， its because of network vocabulary vivid， straightforward， humorous， trendy special. Besides， most networks vocabulary are with simple vivid and highly personalized features， which is working with university students active thinking， longing indulgent， like breaking an orderly system of personality traits coincide. And for practicality among college students of the network vocabulary among college students， 98.76% of students believe that the network vocabulary is very practical， only 1.24 percent of students do not think the network vocabulary helpful

3.2 Although Timeliness short can cause the network vocabulary elimination rate， but does not affect its utility among College Students

Main factors affecting the of practicality Internet vocabulary practicality include timeliness short， low popularization， no connotation， but the main factors affecting network Vocabulary is the timeliness of short[7]， the reason why college students use network vocabulary words is that Most network vocabulary are trendy. Network vocabulary is brought out by most popular event. Whats more， rapid social development， the news update is also full of tricks； in this case， the network vocabulary can easily be eliminated. But the network vocabulary is also of fast replacement. Even eliminated a number， it will quickly have other new network words instead. And most college students are always exposure to new things， have active thinking， easy to accept new things， so that the timeliness of short will not become an obstacle to the development of resistance network vocabulary， it does not affect the usage and practicality of network vocabulary among College Students.

3.3 main crowds， who do not know network vocabulary， are not college students. So it doesnt affect the practicality of the network vocabulary

Targeted to low popularization， they believe the use of the network vocabulary may affect communication with their elders， even increase the generation gap， but the scope of activities among major college students is in school， most of the exchange objects is with their peers. And among college students， the network vocabulary penetration is very high， and therefore it does not affect its usefulness.

4 Summaries

Overall， network vocabulary came out by destiny in the development of language .The forms of network words varies， and its semantic is rich， trendy， it is a unique way of existence， and it is a breath of fresh blood flowing of Chinese language. In the same time， most college students have the presence of a young energetic in this era， they are the main users of the network vocabulary， and may even be the founder of the network vocabulary. Network expressions have good market among college students； high usage among college students and practicality is also very strong.
