Fire can be very frightening, but don't worry. If a fre starts in your home, you will be scared, but try to stay calm. Make a Fire Escape Plan, so you know what to do if there is a fre.

Fire Plan Part 1

If you are woken up by the sound of your smoke alarm or by the sound of what you think is a fre, remember:

STOP - THINK - ACT

?Stay calm. Wake all the members of your family.

?Make your way out together, through the nearest exit.

?If a door feels hot, DO NOT open it.

?When everyone is safe outside, call the Fire Service from a public telephone or a neighbor's house.

?Don't go back to the house for any reason until the Fire Service tell you it is safe to return.

If the fre is blocking your way or you cannot use the stairs for any reason, you must use the second part of your Fire Escape Plan.

Fire Plan Part 2

In fres there is sometimes a lot of smoke. This can kill you. If you have to go through a smoke-flled hallway or room, get down on your hands and knees and crawl under the smoke.

?Get all the family into a room from where it would be the safest to drop from a window onto a fat roof or into the garden.

?ALWAYS pass children down frst. Never leave children until last.

?Remember—never jump!

?Lower yourself to arms length and then drop.

On Tuesday, there will be a tiny salt shaker(小鹽瓶)symbol on menus in some restaurants in New York City. It warns certain meals are high in sodium(鈉). New York City is taking the step to fght against heart disease and stroke(中風(fēng)).

Any menu item with more than 2.3 grams of sodium in it must have the symbol of a salt shaker in a black triangle. Many scientists give us the advice: A person shouldn't eat more sodium than the daily limit every day, which equals about one teaspoon of salt.

“It's not hard to get 2.3 grams of sodium into your mouth,” said Dr. Howard Weintraub from New York University Langone Center(預(yù)防中心). A study found New Yorkers eat more than 3,200 mg of sodium each day on average(平均), the health department said.

For most Americans, eating in the restaurants such as Chipotle(小辣椒)and Subway(賽百味)is thought to be healthier. The new menu symbol may be an eye-opener for people who go to eat in these restaurants. Until Tuesday, they may haven't noticed that there is 2,790 mg sodium in a Chipotle loaded chicken burrito(雙層雞肉卷). And a foot-long spicy Italian sub(香辣三明治)has 2,980 mg sodium in Subway.

Getting New Yorkers to start watching their sodium intake is the frst step. And people should do more to improve their health. “Things are not going to work out great if all you do is just not eat salt,” Weintraub said. “But maybe, just maybe, they'll start to watch how much they eat. Maybe they will get of the subway a stop earlier and walk, instead of taking the elevator. They will walk two fights, there will be some weight loss.”

36. What's the symbol on the menus like?

A. A white bottle in the red circle.B. A tiny salt shaker in a black triangle.

C. A capital letter P in a yellow circle.D. A cofee cup in a white triangle.

37.A Chipotle loaded chicken burrito has _ sodium more than the daily limit.

A. 490 mgB. 900 mgC. 2,790 mgD. 3,200 mg

38.We can infer(推斷)from the passage that _ .

A. all restaurants across the U.S. will use the salt shaker symbol

B. New Yorkers eat one teaspoon of salt each day on average

C. eating too much salt can cause heart disease and stroke

D. New York will ban(禁止)smoking in public places

39.The underlined word “eye-opener” in the passage probably means_ .

A. 喜悅B. 憤怒C. 失望D. 震驚

40.According to Weintraub, which is a healthy life style?

A. People should eat no salt when they are old.

B. Jim takes the elevator up and down.

C. Lucy climbs a long fight of stairs.

D. We should eat meals which are high in sodium.

Can you believe it? Let's improve our public manners. (Mike, Shenzhen)

I am a 14-year-old boy from a poor village in Fuyang, Anhui Province. Like many other left-behind children(留守兒童)in China, l live with my grandparents now. My father went to work in Shanghai several years ago. Last year, my mother went there to care for him because his health is not as good as before. They tell me to listen to my grandparents and call me about twice a month to ask about my study. I really miss my parents and I hope I can aford to go to school in Shanghai. I think every child needs parents' love and care. (Wu Peigen, Anhui Province)
