The Causes and Solutions of Language Errors in English Learning

【Abstract】:Currently, learners are plagued by language error problems in improving their English ability. As a matter of fact, the source and language error problems have been researched all the time. According to the author’s experience, this paper is going to analyze the causes and solutions of the problems and bring new enlightenment to English learners.

Introduction

Language errors concept widely, depending on the type, having different definitions. Such as definition of pragmatic failure, systematic definition, deviation of global and local deviation definition, intra-lingual error definition, voice syntax error definition and output communication error definition. On the other hand, these definitions reflect the language error problems for English learners. Consequently, we should figure out the specific reasons of language errors according to the different definitions and search the solutions.

1.Causes of Language Errors

Apparently Language error is unadapting the learning process, in reality, it has complex causes.

1.1 Mother tongue reasons

The induced mother tongue reason refers to beginners confusing express orders of foreign language and mother tongue in their learning process. There is a distinctive difference between English and Chinese, as a consequence, students of Chinese as their mother tongue are tend to be misguided, resulting in language errors. Moreover, In addition, mother tongue also relates with negative transfer of language learning, namely grammar inertia change, these are all common language errors.

1.2 Intra-lingual interference

Intra-lingual interference is the situation that learners come into language logic confusion after a period of language learning. Taking English learning as example, with the deepening of learning English, grammar, some previous English grammar and sentence patterns change with the tenses, logical, and culture, the beginners do not have a clear recognition, leading to overuse the original reserves of grammar and English language errors.

1.3 Environment interference

Language learning environment may interfere language learners as well. Such as, some teachers with low language ability would give students the wrong language knowledge. In addition, English learning is a structured learning; however, learning environment often changes, which lead to semantic and phonological effects of the environment are conflicted with each other. Like the English textbooks in our country, some biased towards American textbooks while the others are emphasis on English teaching materials, which leads to many learners tend to use the simpler expression instead of the correct one.

2.Error Correction in English Learning

During the learning process, language correction is an important way to improve the quality of language learning. Meanwhile, we should choose appropriate methods according to English learners ' psychological characteristics and learning ability to help learners grasp the knowledge of English and their learning interest.

2.1Analysis on Language Errors

The base of error correction is error analysis. In this regard, the students should well analyze the language error according to the specific content and context.

2.2The Timing of Error Correction

For the original errors of the students, teachers should choose appropriate time and situation of error correction. If students made little language mistakes, it is better not to immediately point out the errors, instead of it, teachers can make students understand and correct the involved language errors can through the way of communicating in English. In oral English, some mistake that not inference semantic expression can be ignored, as long as students master the basic skills. Besides, in the process of error correction, teachers can restate the obvious mistakes and explore the causes of errors with students through the way of range correction of extracts from students' language of syntax errors, which is subsequent to the later learning and deepen students’ impression.

2.3Correction of test questions

In reality, exams reflect the teaching results. Thus, it is the most effective correction method that analyzes students’ language errors one by one via test result. Firstly, students should analyze their errors according to the mistakes in exam. On the other hand, teachers should illustrate English basic logical by the typical language errors to reduce the interference factors. Secondly, teachers can use the way of guide and inspiration, make student who learn well to analyze the typical language error and their thinking, and encourage students to show the results of learning English, eventually to exercise the comprehensive quality of English.

3.Conclusion

Overall, we should distinguish language errors according to language using direction. During teaching process, teachers need to organize teaching focus according to English grammar and syntax and words, respect the rules of English learning and enhance communication with students. Apart from that, understanding students’ common language error helps to adjust teaching methods and make right correction strategy. Eventually, make students to maximize the learning results in the shortest time.
