Honi the Wise Onewas also known as Honi the Circle Maker. By drawing a circle and stepping inside of it, he would1)recitespecial2)prayersfor rain. Sometimes, he even argued with God during a3)drought, and the rains would come. He was, indeed, a4)miraclemaker. As wise as he was, Honi sometimes saw something that5)puzzledhim, then, he would ask questions so he could solve the mystery.

One day, Honi was walking on the road and he saw a man planting a6)carob tree. Honi asked the man, “How long will it take for this tree to7)bearfruit?”

The man replied, “Seventy years.”

Honi then asked the man, “And do you think you will live another seventy years and eat the fruit of this tree?”

Honi the Wise One（智者霍尼，又被稱(chēng)作畫(huà)圓人霍尼），公元前1世紀(jì)的一名猶太學(xué)者。他最為人稱(chēng)道的，便是他能夠成功祈雨的神奇能力。

The man answered, “Perhaps not. However, when I was born into this world, I found many carob trees planted by my father and grandfather. Just as they planted trees for me, I am planting trees for my children and grandchildren so they will be able to eat the fruit of these trees.”

那個(gè)男人回答，“也許不能了。然而，當(dāng)我降生到這個(gè)世界時(shí)，我發(fā)現(xiàn)我的父親和祖父已經(jīng)種下了很多角豆樹(shù)。就像他們種樹(shù)是為了我一樣，我現(xiàn)在也是在為我的子孫們種樹(shù)，這樣他們就可以吃到這些樹(shù)上的果實(shí)了?！?/p>
