On May 27, 2017, at the invitation of International Communication Consortium in Busan, Korea, Chongqing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries organized twelve students from Chongqing Jihua Middle School to pay a fi ve-day visit to Busan for friendly exchanges.
Since the friendly cooperation was agreed between both sides, Chongqing has been in closer contact with Busan as exchanges between teenagers from both places have formed a mechanism and mutual visits with great achievement are conducted every year. In this visit with careful arrangement of Busan International Communication Consortium, students from Chongqing Jihua Middle School carried out a vivid and deep cultural visit by living in the local families of students from the Korean counterpart school—Busan Lianyi Middle School, and experiencing the Korean class.

At 7:00 p.m. of May 27, the delegation arrived in Busan. At the welcome ceremony by Busan International Communication Consortium, twelve students from Chongqing Jihua Middle School had a formal meeting with students from its Korean counterpart school. Students followed the pre-set table numbers to move forward to their awaiting Korean partners and greeted each other in simple English with a friendly and shy smile on the face. Due to the fact that most of students participating in this exchange and visit came from middle school, their English is not good enough for mutual exchanges. Despite of language barrier, their youthful passion was never been put out. Rather, they all took initiatives to think out some better ways for a smoother and heated communication like seeking help from translation APP on the mobile phone or using body language. Thus the restaurant was full of pleasant and friendly atmosphere. After the welcome ceremony, these twelve students followed their Korean partners to their families.
At the morning of May 29, students came to Busan Lianyi Middle School. Like most of the schools in Busan, Lianyi Middle School is built near the mountainwith less land occupation but looking exquisite and warm. Entering into campus, a beautiful picture greeted our eyes on the way to teaching buildings along the gentle ascent in which roads showed spotlessly clean and trees made a pleasant shade; students there dressed in neat uniforms walked by in twos and threes, bowing to greet us in a polite way.
Lianyi Middle School held a warm ceremony to welcome our Chongqing delegation and led them to visit campus. In looking around the campus, we found out an interesting scene: almost every classroom had hand-painted works by students attached upon the blackboard on the back-wall; every work was shaped into a tress with many ties from up to down on which words have been written in a thick way. The school authority introduced that from the first day entering school, teachers would encourage students to speak out their dreams, and then guide them to figure out how to move forward to their dreams in different stages just like a sampling grows up to a big tree—it starts its efforts from the root and moves to the top of dream step by step.
At 10:00 a.m., students followed their partners to the classrooms. After one-day contact with their partners, an intimate friendship has been cultivated between them, and by contrast, shyness in the first meeting disappeared and communications became smoother. In the classrooms of Lianyi Middle School, some of them actively answered the questions in the English class; some played piano and sang in the music class; besides, one of them had an excellent performance to obtain 100 scores in the math examination. In the afternoon, our students participated in the exchange performance held in the school auditorium in which Lianyi Middle School gave a performance of the Korean traditional drum set and the school band played Jasmine Flower and other Chinese classic repertoires; our students performed the chorus of when did the moon start shining in the graceful accompaniment, winning thunderous cheers and applause; the performance of Taijiquan by Wu Manning pushed this show to an exciting climax. During one-day visit, students integrated into the Korean classroom and felt the friendship and enthusiasm of Korean teachers and students, showing the mien of Chongqing teenagers.
Under the leadership of Busan International Communication Consortium, the delegation came to visit Busan City Hall. To record exchanges with international friendly cities, Busan City Hall specially set up an exhibition hall for foreign cultural exchanges. At the China pavilion in this exhibition hall, the glass window displayed the gift presented by Chongqing in 2015 to Busan for the purpose of commemorating the 5th anniversary of friendly cooperation between Chongqing and Busan, and the wall recorded the history of their friendly exchanges. Besides, students showed great interest and warm supports to friendly relation between Chongqing and Busan.
During this visit, students visited many famous scenic spots in Busan: they experienced Busan’s internationalization in the venue of APEC; they walked on the red carpet just like the celebrities did in the opening ceremony of Busan Film Festival in Korea; they felt the charm of marine city in the famous Haeundae Beach; they gained knowledge in the fun of the Busan Aquarium with genuine interest. In the travel to Busan, students saw various aspects of Busan and experienced its culture which is still different from our country despite something in common.
Time flies as the five-day visit came to an end, teenagers from both sides developed a deeper friendship. Students who were shy and restrained in the first meeting were full of affection when they had to say goodbye. They presented gifts to each other and promised to keep contact on social networks with an expectation to re-meet each other in the October of this year when the Korean students came to visit Chongqing. As friendship among teenagers is genuine and pure, we hope this cherished friendship will become a wonderful chapter in their life and make better contribution to the civil friendship bridge connecting China and Korea. .
