Are You an Egg,a Potato,or a Coffee Bean?




A daughter complained to her father. She thought that her life was1)miserable. She was tired of fghting and2)struggling all the time. It seemed that just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He flled three pots with water and3)placed each over a high fre. When the water began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and4)ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then left them boiling for a while without saying a word to his daughter.

The daughter waited5)impatiently, wondering what her father was doing. After twenty minutes, he turned off the6)burners. He took the potatoes and eggs out of the pots, and placed them in different bowls, then he poured the coffee into a cup. Turning to her, he asked, “What do you see?” “Potatoes, eggs and coffee,” she quickly replied. “Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did, and7)noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After removing the shell, she noted the8)hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich9)aroma brought a smile to her face. “Father, what does this mean?” she asked. He then explained that the three things had each faced the same boiling water. However, each one reacted differently.
The potato was once strong and hard, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.
The egg was once10)fragile, but then the inside of the egg became hard.
However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After being in the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.
“Which one are you?” the father asked his daughter. “Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?”
In life, things happen around us, but what really matters is what happens within us. So, which one are you?



有個女孩向她的父親抱怨,她覺得自己的生活一團糟,也厭倦了沒完沒了的拼搏奮斗,好像一個問題才剛剛解決完,另一個問題又來了。女孩的父親是名廚師,他把女兒領進廚房,將三個鍋裝滿了水,再分別放到大火上燒。當水漸漸沸騰,他往第一個鍋里放入了幾顆土豆,往第二個鍋里放入了幾個雞蛋,接著往第三個鍋里放入了一些研磨好的咖啡豆。然后,他一言不發地讓這些東西在火上煮了一會兒。
女兒等得不耐煩,不知道父親的葫蘆里賣什么藥。20分鐘后,父親關掉爐子,把土豆和雞蛋從鍋里拿出來,放到了不同的碗里,然后又將咖啡倒進杯子里。他轉向女兒,問道:“你看到了什么?”女兒隨即回答:“土豆、雞蛋和咖啡唄。”父親接著說:“看仔細點兒,伸手去摸一下土豆。”女兒摸了摸,感覺土豆軟軟的。父親又叫她拿起一個雞蛋,把殼敲開。她把殼剝開后,看到煮熟的雞蛋變硬了。最后,父親讓女兒抿一口咖啡,濃郁的香味讓她面露笑容。“爸爸,您做這些是什么用意呢?”女兒問道。父親這才解釋說,這三樣東西都經歷了開水煮制,然而反應卻各不相同。
土豆原本是硬的,但處在開水里,它就變軟了。
雞蛋本來脆弱易損,可后來里頭卻漸漸變得結實起來。
然而,研磨后的咖啡豆很是獨特。在被放入開水以后,它讓水發生了變化,形成了新的東西。
“哪個是你呢?”父親問女兒。“你是土豆、雞蛋還是咖啡豆?”
在生活中,我們的周圍會發生很多很多事情,但真正重要的是我們內心的態度。那么,你是土豆、雞蛋還是咖啡豆呢?
