Linked by mountains and rivers,
China and ASEAN member states are good neighbors, friends and partners. The two sides are tied by ancestral links, cultural proximity and a wide range of shared interests.
In 2008, a new platform for China-ASEAN people-to-people exchanges was established as the First China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week was launched in Guiyang, the capital of southwestern China’s Guizhou Province.
As a Chinese proverb goes, “It takes 10 years for trees to grow, but 100 years to properly cultivate people.” In the past 10 years, China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week has flourished in terms of scale, level and international influence. Today, as an important exchange channel and a recognized platform for cooperation, China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week has added substantial content to the comprehensive cooperation and strategic cooperative partnership based on friendship and mutual trust that exist between China and ASEAN countries.
The year 2017 marks the 10th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, as well as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. Standing at a new historical starting point, China and ASEAN countries should further coordinate their development strategies within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen their cooperation on education and cultivation of talented people, so as to usher in another brilliant decade of China-ASEAN exchange and cooperation.
