“紅山矗立，碧水中流”是對拉薩景觀最貼切的描繪。雪域城從古至今都與雅魯藏布江的最大支流——拉薩河息息相。藏語中，拉薩河被稱為“吉曲”，意思是“快樂河”，從念青唐古拉山腳下發源，一路奔騰千余里。從空中望去，藍的河道蜿蜒在蒼茫的藏地高原上，河水與金色的沙洲互映襯，好似上帝在群山之間用如椽大筆描繪的油彩畫。

The landscape in Lhasa is consisted of mountain ranges and rivers.Since ancient times, the city of Lhasa, named after the river, lies on the Lhasa River, the largest tributary of the middle section of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. In Tibetan, the Lhasa River is called"jiqu", which means"Happy River". Originated from the foot of the Nyainqentanglha Mountain, it winds its way of more than a thousand li. From a bird’s eye view, the blue river meandering in the vast Tibetan Plateau and the golden sandbanks add radiance and beauty to each other, as if a large oil painting done by God.
