What does your school look like? Square buildings (方正的建筑) and rooms, rows of desks, a teacher standing at the front? Most schools are like this. But new ideas for how to design campuses are here. These schools may give us some ideas.
Close to nature
Learning doesnt just happen in the classroom, but anywhere in school. In future schools, students might study outside. The schools should look more like gardens than factories (工廠).
Beijing No 4 High School Fangshan Campus is a good example of a “garden school”.
There is green grass on the rooftops (屋頂). It makes the whole campus (校園) look like rolling hills (起伏的山巒). Many gardens, big and small, are all over campus. The most special part is the schools rooftop farm. It has 36 plots (一塊地) for the schools 36 classes. It gives students a chance to learn farming techniques (技能).
Creative & sporty
When schools dont have enough space, what can they do? Tiantai No. 2 Primary School in Hangzhou has an idea.
The school looks like an oval (橢圓). There is a running track (跑道) on its rooftop. But you dont need to worry about safety (安全性). There is a strong glass wall and high fences (柵欄) along the track.
“Childhood would be much less fun if children lose the right to enjoy running,” said architect Ruan Hao, designer of the school. The schools track gives students a beautiful place to exercise in. It also shows them a good example of how to be creative.
Open & interactive
In a world with the internet and computers, students dont have to go to school to get information. Will we still need schools in the future?
Of course,we human beings (人類) are different from machines (機器),for we can really feel. Schools should give people as many chances to meet other people as possible.
So the classrooms of Chaoyang Future School in Beijing have glass walls. People can easily find each other and talk. There are no blackboards in the classrooms, meaning there is no front or back to the room. Students can move their own tables around to make a bigger round table, with teachers sitting among them. They can interact (互動) more with each other.
