●詞句解析

1....we decided to go to the beach near our hotel.我們決定去賓館附近的海灘。

動詞decide后面通常接動詞不定式作賓語，表示“決定做某事”。例如：

They decided to go for a walk after dinner.他們決定晚飯后去散步。

2.We waited over an hour for the train because there were too many people.

And because of the bad weather，we couldn’t see anything below.

兩個句子中的because與because of的意思相同，都是“由于；因為”的意思，但because是連詞，用來引導原因狀語從句；because of是一個復合介詞，后面要接名詞或代詞。例如：

He didn’t go to school yesterday because he was ill.他昨天沒去上學，因為他病了。

I didn’t go shopping yesterday because of the rain.因為下雨，我昨天沒去買東西。

because還可用來回答Why開頭的特殊疑問句，而because of則不可用。例如：

—Why were you late？你為什么遲到了？

—Because I got up late.因為我起床晚了。

3.My father didn’t bring enough money，so we only had one bowl of rice and some fish.

enough用作形容詞，意為“足夠的；充分的”，用作定語時放在名詞前或放在名詞之后。另外，enough也可用作表語。例如：

Thirty yuan is enough.三十元足夠了。

enough也可用作副詞，意為“足夠地；充分地”，用來修飾形容詞或副詞，通常放在被修飾的詞之后。例如：

Isitwarmenoughintheroom？房間里夠暖和了嗎？

4.Although many students like to watch sports，game shows are the most popular.

although（=though）意為“雖然；即使”，是從屬連詞，引導讓步狀語從句，但不可與but連用。若句子中用了but，就不能再用although。although引導的從句可放在主句前，也可放在主句后。例如：

Although she is in poor health，she works hard.（=She is in poor health，but she works hard.）盡管她身體不好，但還是努力工作。

I enjoy learning English，although it takes me a lot of time.盡管學英語花費我很多時間，但我還是喜歡學。

5.My best friend Larry is quite different from me.John is similar to Larry because he’s less hardworking than me.

be different from意為“與……不同”，介詞from不可用as或with替代。例如：

Your bike is different from mine.你的自行車和我的不一樣。

be similar to意為“與……相像的”，其中的介詞to也不可用其他介詞替代。例如：

My watch is similar to Mary’s.我的手表和瑪麗的相像。

6.But I think friends are like books—you don’t need a lot of them as long as they’re good.

as long as意為“只要”，引導狀語從句，不是“與……一樣長”的意思。例如：

As long as it doesn’t rain，we can go.只要不下雨，我們就可以去。

information意為“信息；消息”，是不可數名詞，不可與不定冠詞連用，但可以說a piece of information來表達“一條信息”。該詞作主語時，謂語動詞用單數形式。例如：

I hope you will give me some information about the university.我希望你能給我提供一些有關這所大學的信息。

All our information is up to date on the computer.我們計算機上的信息都是最新的。
