As the new year begins,let us also start anew.After a long time of preparation,TMR Modern Herbal Medicine,an English international academic journal specializing in the research of modernization of herbal medicine(HM),has been finally established.Here,on the behalf of TMR Modern Herbal Medicine team,I would like to acknowledge all the members of the Traditional Medicine Research(TMR)editorial board for their great support and help.We warmly welcome our readers and contributors to continue to pay attention to TMR Modern Herbal Medicine.

HM is a range of medical practices and health interventions used mainly in China for more than four millennia.As a typical naturally derived drug,HM has developed for several thousands of years and accumulated abundant human pharmacological information and experience to form an integrated theory system.However,the problems of lower product quality,substandard codes and standards have restricted its further developmentand acceptance internationally.According to the status and problems,it is concluded that the modernization of HM has become necessary and urgent.Modernization of HM means the combination of HM with modern technology,modern academic thoughts,and modern scientific culture,in which themost important point is to elucidate the active components of HM,especially the material foundation of compound prescriptions and their pharmacodynamic mechanisms.Technology of analytical chemistry and cell molecular biology are useful tools to realize the modernization of HM.

TMR Modern Herbal Medicine faces to the scientific frontier research field of modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.It focuses on the areas of herb medicinal resources and planting,processing of herbal medicine and herbalslices,herbalpreparation and production technology,pharmacology and toxicology,clinicalresearch and assessment,etc.The journal publishes peer-reviewed original articles including commentary,review,clinical and basic research,case report,clinical trials protocol,conference announcement and letters to the editor about the modern herbal medicine.
