If music is the food of love, play on.That's the case for one Mexican musician who has fallen head over heels in love with China. In today's stories of foreigners living in China, our reporter finds out what it is about the country that keeps touching the musician's heart strings.
Luis Aguilar was born in Mexico, and went to the United Kingdom spending four years studying music. When he traveled to China in 2004,he fell in love with the country at first sight.
He said,“I came here to publish my music, and that's where my dream came true.I found out that I should first learn Chinese to help my communication with people here.At the same time, studying Chinese is a way to get to know thiscountry, and thiswillgive me more opportunities to better my music.”
It's winter vacation when we met him on campus.During the past semester,he balanced himself between study and performing, sometimes teaching children to play the guitar.
Luis plays for activities like this almost every month. And now that he has passed the official HSK Chineselanguage proficiency exam,he's planning to further his study in China after graduating this year.
He said, “It is a little bit hard to arrange my schedule, butsince the presentations are atthe weekends or at night, they won’t interfere with my classes in the day.But I still have to continue my study,so although it's late after the guitar show,I still arrange some time to study.”
He tells us that he loves hotpot and sesame paste and cannot live without them. And sometimes he thinks a lot about Chinese philosophy, saying that he respects Confucius for his clemency(仁慈),but he agrees more with another ancient philosopher,Han Feizi. He holds that the law is the most important thing in a society.
But when it comes to music, there's nothing to agree or disagree, just to enjoy.
“Happy Chinese new year! ” He just smiled as if Chinese music once again touched his heart strings at the very moment.
