I currently serve as a project manager in World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies-the largest international NGO on traditional Chinese medicine.
As a graduate of medical university, I'm not a Chinese medicine doctor, unlike my boss, who is an acupuncturist, also considered as a magician. She is able to make people fall asleep within just 10 minutes, and this could satisfy all her patients, most of them are our business partners.
Instead of being a doctor, I majorly focus on global promotion and communication of traditional Chinese medicine, in particular in countries and regions along the belt and road. Through this job, I have the opportunities to visit many countries and regions of quite different culture, social fabric and economic condition.
During the visit, I also was shared countless colorful and compelling stories. So next, let me share with you one of them:
About 20 years ago in Canada, when Steven was just 15,he was badly injured by falling off a horse, and both of his legs couldn't move. After receiving the acupuncture treatment, Steven's legs gradually restored feeling and he even managed to move as freely as before. The young man was deeply intrigued by the thin needles and the eastern culture behind. Despite fierce opposition from his parents, Steven dropped out of college and began to learn acupuncture. His parents were irritated and frustrated by his choice, they never imagined their son to be a TCM practitioner, because TCM at that time was on the fringe of medical system within Canada and in many part of the world. But Steven was determined, without the financial support from his family, he worked at night to pay the tuition, and ultimately got master's degree in TCM.
As an acupuncturist, he helps countless people to alleviate pain; as an animal lover, he couldn't stand his pet horse suffering from ankle injuries. So he learnt animal medicine in UK and made integration with TCM knowledge. He even asked his friend from China to send him meridian chart of the horse body to get better understanding of horses in TCM theories. He noticed that horses look clear, calm and relaxed during acupuncture treatment, and after constant observation and practice, he finally found the methods of animal pain management. Now, Steven is a famous TCM doctor and leading animal acupuncturist in Dubai. Among his patients, there are not only local people but also royal horses.
Steven's story strikingly illustrates the wonder of TCM; it also well elaborates the shared benefits beyond borders TCM offers to the world. Since its debut along the ancient Silk Road 2000 years ago, TCM has been ever-evolving by absorption and innovation. It plays a key role in facilitating inter-regional contacts and cultural exchanges; it also fosters the well-being of world population throughout history.
According to the data from WHO, TCM is currently used in 183 countries and regions; 29 countries have enacted legislation on traditional medicine, 18 has integrated TCM in medical insurance system.

It is a privilege for me to be a member of WFCMS, since serving as a TCM messenger to promote its global development, is exactly my dream. I firmly believe, more people and even more animals, would benefit from TCM.
